Unable to scan on Canon MG2950 printer

Hello,

I have a Canon MG2950 printer, the cartridges were empty so I removed them and decided not to replace them. I probably made a big mistake by throwing them away because now it is impossible for me to use the scanner, whether via Wi-Fi or USB. I get a message that says "Code: 2,140,21 The printer is in use or an error has occurred. Check the status. The scanner driver will be closed." Additionally, the orange Alarm light blinks 4 times.

I am wondering if the only solution would be to put cartridges back in (even if they are empty; I don't have the old ones anymore) in case the mere absence of cartridges prevents the use of the scanner...

What do you think? Thank you for your help.

Configuration: Windows / Chrome 79.0.3945.130
