Good evening :)

I bought an external DVD player (this one: https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B07TQMD293/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) to connect via USB to my MacBook Air 13" and I can't play DVDs with it... Although I can play CDs!
When I connect it via USB with a DVD in the drive, it takes several minutes to tell me that the DVD is blank, and I can't open it with VLC because it says the DVD contains nothing.. I have the impression it considers it a data DVD, but I want to watch the movie that is on it on my computer... How can I play it?

Hello,

I purchased the same player on Amazon for a friend who has a brand new iMac, which means no built-in drive. The result was that it played movie DVDs and CDs in Mac OS or Windows formats perfectly, but it did not read any Audio CDs... I returned it to Amazon and got a refund. I think this model of the player is simply not worth anything.

Best regards.

I don't think the player is not working, since I can read the audio CDs; it's because the computer recognizes it directly as "burnable CD," while it should recognize it as a DVD... That's what I can't manage to do: read it as a DVD.
Do you know how I can change that?

If the Mac doesn't recognize it as a DVD, it's because the drive is not sending the correct information to the Mac. Either the drive doesn't see that it's a DVD, it sees the medium as a blank CD, or the drive sees it correctly but sends incorrect information to the Mac. On my end, I have done multiple tests of all kinds with this drive, without results, and I had to admit that it has a real problem. If you have the opportunity to have it tested by a friend on another computer, you might find out more.
