Hello everyone,
My C:\$WINDOWS.~BT folder is 37GB on my hard drive; so I followed the instructions on this page: https://www.commentcamarche.net/faq/49083-windows-bt-qu-est-ce-que-c-est
but that doesn't solve the problem. I also tried CCleaner but nothing works either, C:\$WINDOWS.~BT is still there.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi,

Do you have any pending Windows 10 updates?

Boot into recovery options:
  • Windows 10 settings
  • Update & security
  • On the left recovery
  • On the right advanced startup

Then go to advanced options and command prompt.
Inside, try:

attrib -s -h C:\$WINDOWS.~BT
rmdir /S C:\$WINDOWS.~BT

Afterwards, there are the brute force methods like unlocker

Indeed, there was a pending update; after that, the cleanmgr only met my expectations because I ran it as administrator. The problem is resolved.

Not knowing exactly how to do it, I'm posting here...

This famous folder "$Windows.~BT" is also the folder used by Windows to place the entire Windows 10 upgrade

Not wanting to upgrade, I blocked OS updates via the registry.

But now I would like to delete the contents of this folder, but I can't.

I have tried different methods in the "command prompt" as an administrator, but it gets stuck on 1 file, and as soon as it gets stuck, it doesn't try to go further or delete what can be deleted.

When launching disk cleanup in admin mode, there's nothing regarding Windows update files.

So for now, I'm stuck.

Does

Boot into recovery options:

Windows 10 settings
Update and security
On the left recovery
On the right advanced startup

Work even in this case?

I don't like having to hold my breath in front of my computer when there's a problem like this, the fear of making mistakes, deleting what shouldn't be deleted, etc...

It's crazy all these things that people have to look for because Microsoft muddles the waters and prevents users from using their computers the way they want.

Otherwise, I managed to delete that folder with the whole upgrade to W10 1909 that was inside it!
