Hello,
my daughter's computer can no longer connect to the internet (only "Airplane Mode" is accessible). Her computer is running Windows 10.
When I try to view the network adapter with Device Manager, I get the following message: "MMC cannot open the file c:\windows\system32\devmgmt.msc. The file may not exist, is not a MMC console, or was created by a later version of MMC. This may also happen because you do not have sufficient access rights to this file."
I have read various posts on this subject but I cannot resolve the issue.
I also checked the Microsoft support.
In the command prompt, I searched for the following 3 files: Regsvr32 Msxml.dll; Regsvr32 Msxml2.dll (they are not found). However, for the following file: Regsvr32 Msxml3.dll, it displays the following message: DIIRegisterServer in Msxml3.dll succeeded. I restarted the computer but still have no access to either Device Manager or the network adapter. Thank you for your help.

Hello,
and especially thank you for trying to solve my problem.
I did the first step, the scannow: it stops at 31% with a message indicating that some files cannot be repaired and that I need to isolate and then replace them. For this, it tells me to check the CBS.log file. I consulted this file, but I admit I don't understand anything in it.
I also ran the two DISM command lines, but it gives me an error 87 with the following message "DISM does not recognize the command-line option. Please refer to the help.... or check the file c:\windows\logs\DISM\dism.log.
I have no internet connection on the laptop in question, so I'm using another computer to contact you. I have made copies of these two files, but I don't see how to attach them.
Thank you again for your help.

Well, it's a netbook with low disk space
there's little disk space left.
You need to clean up to make space on the disk: how to free up disk space on Windows
Moreover, you won't be able to repair Windows 10 with so little.
\\?\Volume{90fcc2a7-0000-0000-0000-100000000000}\ (System Reserved) (Fixed) (Total:0.54 GB) (Free:0.5 GB) NTFS
You can try, but I doubt it will work: How to repair Windows 10 without data loss.

There is something I don't understand. When I go to the C drive in the properties, it shows a hard drive of 464 GB with only 36.3 GB used. So is that normal? Since the data is different, can I still try the solution of repairing Windows 10 without losing any data?
Re,
in the end, I completely reinstalled Windows 10 without keeping any data on the hard drive (I had made a USB backup of what was important). Result: after reconfiguration, everything works normally. Thank you a thousand times for the support.
I mark the issue as resolved.

Hi,
Perform these three repairs:
1) You can start a SFC scan and repair
In the Windows search, type Command Prompt
In the result, right-click and then run as administrator.
In the black Command Prompt window, type sfc /scannow in the window.
See this image: https://www.malekal.com/wp-content/uploads/ouvrir-invite-commandes-administrateur-Windows10.gif
It should tell you that protection has detected damaged items, that you need to restart to correct them. At that point, restart.
Then, run a DISM repair
Still in the Command Prompt window, execute these two commands successively.
DISM /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
DISM /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
(note, there is a space in front of each command starting with / /Online /Cleanup-image etc)
Make sure the scan and repair complete and no errors appear.
Restart the computer.
Try to run the updates again, if it continues to crash, move on to the next step.
2) Repair Windows Update with Windows Repair as indicated in the second part of this page: https://www.malekal.com/reparer-windows-update/
3) Finally:
To check your computer for any infections and get a general status of the system:
Follow the FRST tutorial by clicking on this blue link. ( take the time to read carefully - everything is well explained ).
Download and run the FRST scan,
WAIT FOR THE SCAN TO COMPLETE, it takes several minutes.
A message will indicate that the scan is finished.
Three FRST reports will be generated:
Send these 3 reports to the site https://pjjoint.malekal.com/ and reply here with the 3 pjjoint links that lead to the reports so that we can review them.
(The blue links lead to step-by-step explanatory tutorials, click on them for more precise instructions to follow).
