Hello,

A curiosity since this morning... (I have plenty of .doc files that don't have this issue)...
When I insert an image on a page, the "edit image" option in the right-click menu is grayed out, but only from the moment the page is saved.
As long as the page is not saved, no matter what text wrapping I choose, the "edit image" option is clickable. But as soon as I save the page, it gets grayed out...
Would you happen to know the explanation for this mystery, please?...

Of course, I tried restarting Word, but the same thing happens...
Thanks in advance!

Configuration: Windows / Firefox 66.0

Hello,

I think you're mixing things up. This button is always greyed out (or almost always) because it only works with older cliparts in Enhanced Metafile format. It allows you to convert these images into drawings as these files contain both bitmap and vector information.

Hello m@rina,
Thank you very much for getting back to me!

Look at this image.
On the left, a file that's acting up, refusing to let me modify the image when I right-click after saving it; on the right, a file that works fine, and there I can modify the image...

You can clearly see that the windows that open are not the same (the options are different), even though I'm doing exactly the same thing: I insert an image, save the file, and right-click.

To be able to work, I took an old file that allows for image modification, I saved it as..., and I deleted its content to put my image in. And it works...

Hello evevite

Given your menus, I suppose you are using Word 2007. Let me know if I'm wrong.

The windows you are showing and the images are not the same.
If you look at the image on the right, you can see that "Edit Image" appears twice. It’s a mistake by Microsoft to have two commands with the same name for two different commands.
And you can see that the first one is grayed out; it is used for what I mentioned in my first post.
The second does not allow you to "edit" the image but rather to change it: it opens the dialog box for replacing it with another image. In newer versions, it is called "Change Picture," which is more accurate.

But I can take a screenshot with 2007 and show you the same thing:

first screenshot:

And here’s a second screenshot, exactly like your second screenshot:

The first is an image inserted in a drawing canvas, the second is inserted in the page. And you can see that I have exactly the same thing as you and that "Edit Image" is indeed grayed out.

Re...

And here is one last screenshot, this time with a clipart image as I explained to you, and you can see that both "Edit Image" buttons are active, especially the first one.

Yes, I have Word 2007.
What I'm interested in is the fact of "changing" the image: I have 80 different pages to create, and the only thing that changes on these pages is the image. So I would like to be able to make copies of my first page and then just change the image for the others...

According to what you say, it's when the image is inserted into a drawing canvas that the option is grayed out... I don’t know what a drawing canvas is, I never use it, I always place my images directly on the pages.
But I just found the solution: I was wondering why I could modify the image as long as the page wasn’t saved, but not afterwards. It’s because you need to convert the .doc to .docx! Now it works.
Thanks for your help!

Oh okay, so you were in Compatibility mode... Indeed, I understand!
