No video signal with the motherboard

Hello everyone.

I just assembled a motherboard (an Asus Z370) + processor (i5 9600K) + cooler + RAM, all new.
When I did my first power-on test, with just a keyboard, mouse, and screen (connected via HDMI to the corresponding output on the motherboard), I had no video signal. I thought I had messed everything up, and after several restarts and even a complete disassembly and reassembly, I decided to plug in the graphics card to see, and miraculously, the BIOS appeared, and everything was fine.
I tested again after installing Windows by switching the video output from the graphics card to the motherboard, and the same thing happened, no reaction.

So my question is, since the motherboard is supposed to allow basic display with the processor, what could cause the total absence of video signal (both HDMI and DVI), while it works through the graphics card?

Thank you in advance.

    Hello,
if when you tested, the graphics card was connected to the motherboard, it seems normal to me. Otherwise, I don't know, check what’s in the device manager.

No, actually, I had taken care not to install the graphics card during the first tests, just to see if the base was working.

I was able to take a look at the device manager (before Windows gave me a black screen without a mouse after a certain update, but that's for another post soon, I think…). There's only the PCI 1, so the graphics card, but it is being managed by Windows video (I haven't had time to install the actual driver because of this black screen issue, indeed). There’s nothing else on the list.

Well, I spent 11 hours stressing over this just because of a tiny loose connection behind the screen. I didn't say anything...
