just make sure that there is nothing connected other than your hard drive and your CD (as well as keyboard, mouse, and screen of course)

at the moment the error message appears, wait for the line that gives you a choice between "F1" and "F2"
go into the setup menu using the F2 key, then set the "primary hard drive" to "on"

then exit this menu using the "Esc" key and save using the "Enter" key when prompted

it will reboot and display the error message again... don’t panic this time press "F1" in the option between the two keys "F1" and "F2" and you'll see it restart like a miracle.

obviously, a small adjustment is necessary afterwards to avoid this kind of inconvenience often caused by a forced shutdown of the machine.

disable the floppy drive

Yes, it worked, I have the same BIOS as this person:

choose F2 setup
under BIOS select standard CMOS features
select drive A option enter
choose the value "none" enter
save and exit

More detailed:

1) Press F2 at startup
2) Use the arrows to select the option 'Standard CMOS Features' and press enter
3) Then select the option Drive A (which is at the end of the screen if I'm not mistaken) with the arrows and press enter
4) And finally choose 'none'
5) Press escape
6) Choose on the right side of the screen (actually the one for exiting) 'Exit with save' and press enter

Hi! I just had this problem with a DELL Inspiron 531 and I managed to fix it. I unplugged everything from my computer and restarted. I then reconnected my monitor, mouse, speakers, and keyboard. I restarted and was able to access the BIOS with F2 on boot. I arrived at the page where it says First Boot Device, which is set to Floppy, and I need to change it using the + button. Then I need to change Boot Up Floppy Seek to Disabled. Then SAVE and Quit. Restarting, it showed an error message DISKETTE DRIVE 0 SEEK FAILURE.. press F1 to boot... Reconnect the other USB ports one by one... As soon as I replugged my printer, the same problem occurred. I unplugged the printer, rebooted... still an error message... F1 and then it works now. It was my printer that I believe has compatibility issues with Vista. Good luck to you!!

From one day to the next, my computer displayed this message: "diskette drive 0 seek failure"
My computer is from 2002, it's a Dell Dimension 4550.
