Hi there,
The alert says: "Problem starting C:\Program Files\HP\HP Photosmart 5520 series\bin\HPStatusBL.dll. The specified module could not be found" and appears at each startup.
To remove the RunDLL alert after the printer was uninstalled, try these steps in order:
1) Clean up startup entries
- Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
- Go to the Startup tab (or open Task Manager > Startup in Windows 10/11).
- Look for any entry related to HP or HPStatusBL.dll or HP Photosmart 5520.
- Disable it, then apply and restart.
2) Remove the HP Status Monitor service/task
- Open Task Scheduler (search "Task Scheduler").
- Check Task Scheduler Library for any tasks named HP, HPStatus, HPStatusBL, or related to HP Photosmart.
- If found, disable or delete the task.
- Also check Services (services.msc) for any HP-related services, disable if present and not needed.
3) Delete leftover HP files (optional)
- Navigate to C:\Program Files\HP\HP Photosmart 5520 series\bin\ and see if HPStatusBL.dll or related files remain.
- If the folder exists and you no longer have the printer installed, you can delete the folder contents or the entire folder. If Windows blocks deletion, try Safe Mode or use an admin command line to delete.
4) Clean registry references (advanced)
- Warning: editing the registry can cause system issues. Proceed only if you’re comfortable.
- Open regedit (Windows + R, regedit).
- Backup first (File > Export).
- Search for "HPStatusBL.dll", "HP Photosmart 5520", or "HPStatus" and carefully remove startup-related or path entries referencing the DLL.
- Common paths to check: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. Also check under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HP and related keys.
- After edits, restart.
5) Use a cleanup utility (optional)
- You can run a trusted cleanup tool to remove orphaned startup entries and HP software remnants. Ensure you download from reputable sources.
6) Reinstall or update drivers (optional)
- If you still want to finish cleanup without errors, you could reinstall the HP Photosmart software, then uninstall it properly via Programs and Features, which may clean up references more cleanly.
If the problem persists after these steps, please tell me:
- Your Windows version (e.g., Windows 10, 11, 64-bit).
- Whether you can access Task Manager > Startup, and if you see any HP-related items.
- If you’re comfortable sharing any specific error IDs or registry screenshot text (avoid personal data).

Hello,
To check the computer, I invite you to perform this FRST analysis and return the reports:
Follow the FRST tutorial. ( take time to read carefully - everything is well explained ).
Download and run the FRST scan,
Wait for the scan to finish, a message will indicate that the analysis is complete.
Three FRST reports will be generated:- FRST.txt
- Shortcut.txt
- Additionnal.txt
Send these 3 reports to the site https://pjjoint.malekal.com/ to share them.
In return provide the 3 pjjoint links that lead to the reports here in a new reply so that we can review them.
