Steam only launches as an administrator.

Hello,
I currently have a problem with Steam. When I click on a game, it doesn't launch. Nothing happens.
When I click on Steam, the same issue occurs. I tried using the Windows search, same problem. The only way to launch a Steam game is to search for Steam in Windows and run it as an administrator. It's quite annoying to have to repeat this process every time... I've already tried reinstalling it, but it only works temporarily. This only happens when there are no Steam background processes (basically every time I restart Windows). I would also like to avoid launching Steam at Windows startup, as it slows down the already long boot time.
Thank you in advance

Hello,
To always launch Steam as an administrator, you do:

right-click on Steam > open file location

Then you look for steam.exe (or if you haven't shown the extensions, it's just "steam" with the blue Steam icon) and right-click on it > properties > compatibility tab > check "run this program as an administrator", then you confirm and it's done, it will always launch as an administrator.

To prevent Steam from launching at Windows startup, launch Steam, then go to "Steam" (menu at the top left) > "Settings" > "Interface" and uncheck "Run Steam on computer startup".

There you go, it's very simple, you probably would have found it on your own if you had searched a bit ^^

Thank you for your response :)
However, I already knew how to do that. What I wanted was simply to 'repair' Steam so that it works normally :/

In fact, the problem is that Steam must be installed in "C:\Program Files" and it is a write-protected folder, meaning only administrator programs can write to and modify files there. So if you don't run Steam as an admin, it won't work (or won't work properly).

The other solution would be to allow write and modification access to the Steam folders for all users, but this is not recommended because any application could then modify the Steam files without needing special permission.

I see. But why do the other applications located in C:/Program Files work correctly?

Usually, applications that need to modify files in write-protected folders also run in administrator mode. As for why some require admin permission and others do not, I admit I have no idea; it's one of the mysteries of Windows ^^
