Epson XP-245 refuses to print in black if out of color.

Hello everyone,

Here's my problem: My printer refuses to print texts in black when I run out of color ink.

Or at least, from what I understand because the messages it sends me are in English, which I only sometimes comprehend very superficially, instinctively...

The situation is that I have a completely full black ink cartridge and 2 empty color ink cartridges, and when I try to print in black, nothing happens (except I receive a message in English which tells me, I presume, that I have no color ink left, and it gives me the choice between "print in black" and "cancel"; and when I choose "print in black", of course it doesn't print; while when I have color, of course, I don't receive any message, it prints directly).

I want to specify that my printer is recent and to my knowledge has no problems. It's an Epson printer, model .

I'm starting this topic to ask two questions:

Does anyone who knows this problem know how to bypass it via a computer setting or some trick? Or even, while I'm at it, a trick to receive the messages in French...

And, does anyone know this issue with other brands or models of printers, or could someone guarantee that certain printers do not have such problems? Because I'm considering selling mine to buy another one.

I thank in advance anyone who will respond to me.

PS: I found a thread on ccm dating back to 2005 that already reported this issue https://forums.commentcamarche.net/forum/affich-1810200-comment-imprimer-en-noir
I couldn't find any sufficiently precise answers, or those that suited me, even though I admit that I haven't read it entirely at the time I'm writing this text.

What I wanted to say about this topic is that I found many people there, like me, suspecting Epson or other brands of doing this kind of thing on purpose to make us buy more ink (as if it wasn't expensive enough already); and I take this opportunity to clarify that I am certain that my color ink levels decrease when I print black and white images.

That's why I would like to know if you know any brands of printers that are a little less deceitful and a little more ethical with their customers. Because as far as I'm concerned, I pledge to boycott Epson and encourage anyone else to do the same.

Unfortunately, you have understood everything, since you no longer have any full color cartridges, the system blocks printing in black, even though the latter is fine! Maybe under a Linux session, it would work, because it doesn't install the printer, we just plug it in via USB and it's connected... Good luck! Other brands than Epson are the same, planned obsolescence ensures that...!
