Yes, I saw your message earlier. But what more can I say? I consulted the manual for this TV, here:

And when I read it, it confirms what I was saying, the 3 USB ports can be used to read from a USB stick. The USB 3 port is to be used for connecting an externally powered USB hard drive. And this USB 3 port is the one to use for recording a TV show (hence the notation REC)

For the rest, as usual, you need to choose the input source for playback, TV, USB 1, USB 2, DVD player, etc... basically the usual stuff.

There may have been a bug in the TV when the USB stick was connected, the TV then behaved as if it was asked to record a program, in which case it starts by formatting the USB stick and preparing its folders... or perhaps, when a USB stick is connected to the HDD/REC port, the recording function starts automatically. This happens if the port wasn't chosen beforehand as the input source.

You should try reading the USB stick from one of the other two USB ports.

I don't really see what else to add...

Indeed, you are right, but I wanted to point out that files larger than 4GB, such as a movie, must be loaded onto a drive formatted in NTFS to be read.

Regarding the USB connections, remember my post from February 7, 2018 at 3:40 PM (above)
and your reaction on February 7, 2018 at 5:05 PM to the bizarre response from SONY support.

No, my USB drives are in the right format, it's just that when I insert them into the "slot," a pop-up (3 to 4 seconds) appears offering you "video or photo"
and nothing more, and this pop-up disappears just as quickly, leaving you stuck like a fool in front of your beautiful TV: you manage to read some files (1 mp4 out of 3) and I’ve
found it quicker to connect my USB drives directly to the box, and everything reads perfectly (I even have the file directory contained in the drive).

The only USB "slot" that works as stated in the "manual" is the one reserved for HDD-REC, which works for recording (only the programming is a bit
complicated, but you get used to it): by the way, in this blue "slot," you can only put a USB device with a minimum memory of 32 GB: drives below that are rejected,
I got that figured out, and I’ve even connected a 1 TB external hard drive (Western Digital).

That's it for the USB. (the TV always registers 2 folders on my drives: Android and LOST.DIR).

No, dear Thierry, everything you read in there is enticing and that's how you get fooled, and I’m not even talking about the one-pager (1 sheet) praising the features
of the TV that the seller pulled out during the purchase: this sheet lists over twenty lines of all the great possibilities of the device, enough to make you salivate.

Finally, the Bluetooth connectivity does not work with the smartphone (which is recognized by the TV): here, the technician tried 4 or 5 applications found on the Play Store,
of which only one works somewhat, but hey, "it's a TV, not a computer," I've come to terms with that.

Finally, for reading files from my computer (which is also recognized by the TV), the "mirror" functionality and Wi-Fi Direct do not work either.
The technician found a workaround thanks to file sharing with Windows (my computer: Intel i7 running Windows 10).

In short, it's thanks to the technician who really racked his brain and his tricks that I can enjoy some features of this wonderful TV.
