You do not have permission to write to this location...

Hello,

I'm following up on a topic I had raised a few months ago, namely: "you do not have permission to write to this location, please contact the administrator."

This occurs regularly from Photoshop (very old version) when I save a retouched photo. Quick fix: I save it to my D drive and then copy/paste from D to the desired directory on C.

Not elegant, but it works.

There’s a new issue in the past two days with genealogy software (Généatique 2015), I can no longer finish my session by saving the file, nor can I make any modifications before saving since the files are loading in "read-only" mode.
At the moment of saving, it sends me a message saying, "you cannot save because some files are read-only."

I want to clarify that I've been using this program for years and everything was working perfectly, even after upgrading to Windows 10.

This all seems to be linked to the general writing issue on C with certain programs, but I can't find the solution.

I checked the properties of the relevant folders and removed the "read-only" status, but nothing changes.

The problems with Généatique 2015 seem to have appeared since the last Windows update (but I'm not 100% certain).

If anyone has any ideas, I thank you in advance.

Hello,
Solution to test, in my case the problem has been resolved.
1/ Open Windows Defender
2/ Click on: "Virus & threat protection settings"
3/ Click on: "Controlled folder access"
4/ Click on: "Allow an app through controlled folder access"
5/ Click on "+" (Add an allowed app)
6/ Add the app(s) you are using

This process takes only 2 minutes.

Have a good day.

Hello, this response is very interesting because I am facing the same problem. However, in the meantime, the presentation of Windows Defender must have changed because I can't follow your demo. Could someone please guide me on how to proceed with the current Windows Defender? Thank you in advance to all the willing helpers!!
