Image opens in the browser

Hello,

I’m on Windows 10 and I’ve noticed that some of my photos only open with my browser (Opera) whereas usually they open with “Photos” (the name of the Windows 10 image viewer). Moreover, instead of .jpg format they are in .CACHE format. I’d like to know how to revert to the previous behavior: open with the computer’s Photos viewer, not a browser (and the photo is also smaller).

PS:
- When I click “Open with…” on a photo, there are only browsers listed.
- I tried converting the .CACHE photo to .jpg, but that didn’t work.

Thanks!!!

Hello,

I’m starting from the hypothesis that there are two different problems:

1) the fact that some photos are in cache format

2) the association between JPEG photos and the software "Photos"

I would begin by checking that JPEG photos open with "Photos" when double-clicked, for example.

If that’s not the case, you can modify the association by choosing "Photos" or any other multimedia software in the "Open with" menu. A checkbox allows you to keep it as default.

A search for .cache didn’t help me determine what type of file this corresponds to. It’s only indicated that it opens with certain browsers. But if it is a folder, as it seems to be the case, it’s not surprising that you’re not able to convert it.

The question is more: how is it that images are saved in this format, where do they come from? are they recoverable?

If you don’t have many of them and if you can recover them (USB key or SD card, website, external hard drive, etc.), it’s better to do so and open JPEG or PNG.

The remaining question is the reason that caused this malfunction.

Best regards
