Yes you can. In fact it depends not of the type of memory in the graphics card but of the port used by it.
Do you know if your card is using a PCIE, or an older AGP?
If you don't know, you can give me the age of the computer.
New graphics cards that you would buy on sites like amazon, newegg, or others, are based on at least GDDR5 instead of DDR2 or DDR3. In fact they are the slower models of memory on graphics cards.

But pay attention at the connectors. If your Power supply doesn't have a 6pin PCIE connector for adding more power to your card, it will not work. For maximum compatibility, choose a card, and I will tell you if you can put in your PC. Don't forget to give me the link.
