Hello, I have a big problem with my DVD drive. Overnight, after a simple restart, my drive disappeared from My Computer and the Device Manager.
When I show hidden devices, I see my drive, but it says: The device is disconnected (Code 45), reconnect...
I have tried a lot of things:
- changing the SATA slot
- clearing the CMOS
- deleting the upper and lower filter keys from the registry
- uninstalling the drive driver
- reinstalling Windows (upgrade)
- adding enum device key 1,2,3 without success
etc...
Yet the drive works perfectly; it's recognized in the BIOS, and I can boot from it.
I don't know where the problem is from,
Thank you in advance for your replies.

Go to the Device Manager
Expand the DVD/CD Drives menu
Right-click on the CD/DVD drive
Uninstall
Click on Action
Scan for hardware changes
If that doesn't work:
Action
Try -->> Add legacy hardware

I won't be really available for almost the whole of next week, so I won't be able to test.
Hello
With your previous OS, the player worked, and you upgraded to another version? Now the player doesn't work anymore, but it's not broken either; it's simply that Microsoft has found another way to make a little more money.
I just saw on Microsoft (because I have the same problem as you) that you have to pay 14.89 Euros to unlock what the player is playing.
So the player does run, but there's no sound, no image.
It's simply outrageous; I'm going to change the OS.

Hello,
The device in question can very well be physically recognized in the BIOS, you can also boot from it, but when you try to access it, it may not respond at all!
This seems to be the case at the moment, is that correct?
Best regards.

Hello,
Code 45:
This hardware device is not currently connected to the computer. (Code 45)
Recommended resolution
This error occurs when a device that was previously connected to the computer is no longer connected. To resolve this issue, reconnect this hardware device to the computer.
No resolution is necessary. This error code is used solely to indicate the device's disconnected status and does not require resolution.
The error code is automatically cleared when you connect the associated device to the computer.
Additional information
If Device Manager is started with the environment variable
DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES
set to the value 1 (i.e., showing these devices), all subsequently attached (NONPRESENT) devices are displayed in the device list and assigned to this error code.
Try this:
Shut down the PC, disconnect the drive, restart, shut down, reconnect the drive, then restart.

Having a free moment, I took the opportunity to open my PC and take apart the drive.
After looking at it and inspecting it everywhere, I don't see anything unusual except when I shake it horizontally, I hear a little clicking sound, as if a tiny piece had come loose and was moving around inside the drive.
In the end, I wonder if it's not the drive that's broken.
