Disconnect USB from Sony Bravia TV

Hello,

A few months ago, I bought a Sony Bravia TV model KD-55X8509C that I am completely satisfied with. However, I have a big problem: I can't disconnect my USB devices (flash drive or external hard drive). The TV does indicate that I should disconnect them before unplugging, but I can't find that pesky function anywhere. I’ve gone through the manual line by line, searched all over the internet, and I can't find anything that addresses this issue. I'm usually someone who manages to figure things out and dig around, but really, I'm stuck this time. I especially don't want to damage my devices because, to be honest, since then I've been yanking them out, and even with the TV turned off, it doesn’t work. If you could provide me with a solution, that would be great, as I don't find it practical to have to unplug the TV every time.

Thank you in advance for any help you can offer me.

Best regards.

    Hi,

    Is this an Android TV?

If so, just go to Settings > Storage and you will see the USB device and the option to "unmount" it before ejecting.

Thank you for your response judge_dt but that doesn't work. It's an Android but in Settings and storage I only see the internal storage, like information about video and audio apps and the remaining space on my TV, nothing about the external device. No option that tells me to unmount or eject the hardware.

Not knowing the exact interface of the TV and having never handled it, it's a bit complex.
Do you have a notifications menu? If so, a notification indicating that a USB drive is connected? No option to eject it with that?

If I have the notification that appears (like a message) when I plug in my USB drive and it tells me to disconnect it at the end, but there’s nowhere to access it, no menu except to go into the folders to read my files. I really found no option and, as I mentioned above, I really looked everywhere. Chinese puzzle.

We might have to resign ourselves to believing that... Sony has not integrated the feature.

Contacting them and checking directly with them, possibly.

    Good evening,

Don't worry about it, I have a Sony KDL40BX400 from 2010 with a USB port. When I plug a USB stick into it and finish reading, I unplug it and nothing has ever happened to my USB sticks. A TV is not like a PC, even if the current model includes this "Android", it won't affect the stick if you unplug it like that, at least that's my experience ;-)

Best regards and have a good evening ;-)

Thank you for the response. For once, I really read the notification, which actually says not to unplug the key when it’s in use, meaning I can just remove it directly when I'm not using it. Almost a year searching like an idiot when I just needed to read carefully; as they say, we no longer make the effort to read the first words to the end, and the brain does the rest. It was automatic: please do not unplug the key... and boom, I had the end of the sentence, lol. Thank you for your precious help. Hey stargate, I won't lie to you, I used to do the same, I would unplug it directly since I had been searching for so long, but then I thought maybe. What a waste of time.

...I actually read the notification really well for once, which says not to unplug the drive while it's in use, meaning I can take it out directly when I'm not using it.

Well there you go, and indeed, I have never removed the drive while it's in use either, as that could risk data loss, but when the reading is done or when it's not being used, well yeah, we can take it out like that ;-)

On the other hand, to disconnect a USB drive or an external hard drive from my PC, even if I'm not using it, I always use the "Safely Remove Hardware" option ;-)

There you go, I suppose you can close the topic by clicking on "Mark as resolved" just below the topic title ;-)

Regards, have a good evening and a great weekend ;-)
