Good evening,
I bought a GTX 970 but I'm having some issues. One night I was playing Shadow of Mordor and all of a sudden the screen went black as if the computer was in sleep mode. I couldn't switch applications, go back to the Windows desktop, etc. I had to force the computer off (nothing was working). I restarted the game and during the loading of my save game, the same issue happened again. I ran an OCCT test and 15 seconds later I experienced the same bug.
I had other problems when watching videos on VLC; I experienced screen flickering and the same on Facebook videos.
I sent my graphics card back under warranty to LDLC and this morning, after all their tests, they found no issues.
I used a 550 Ti while waiting for my 970 and I didn't have any of the bugs mentioned above.
Do you have any ideas? My power supply is a 500 watts Corsair, could it be the cause?
Thank you in advance :)

Good evening!
You use OCCT... do you do GPU overclocking in your spare time? I know that an OC profile that works well with 3DMark11 (but yes, those rock-solid OC profiles where adding just 1 MHz crashes the program) won't be friends with the game Watch Dogs, which is more sensitive to that kind of overclocking. That might be a lead, consider lowering the frequencies.
Otherwise, well... it's strange. Have you updated the graphics driver? Reinstalled the game?

The 3 biggest lies of the dev: 1. The documentation? We'll do it later... 2. The program has been tested and has no bugs... 3. The technical specifications are finished...-

Look at the temperatures then. It might be a temp limit that's hiding behind...
Use SpeedFan and monitor the temperatures. Give the max temp you recorded on the CPU and GPU during a "gaming session", we'll see if this leads anywhere or not.
No, I have never done GPU overclocking!
... do you then do CPU overclocking? -
Last night I downloaded the 3DMark demo on Steam, I did a benchmark and in less than 30 seconds it was as if the screen went to sleep, meaning the screen turned off but the tower was still on.
Here is the feedback from LDLC:Client hardware test:
- Boot / Display: ok
- Loading Win10 64bits: ok
- NVidia driver installation 375.63 64bits: ok
- System shutdown / reboot: ok
- 3D test under Unigine Heaven (Ultra Mode): ok (17h30 / GPU temp: 67°C)
- Test under OCCT GPU: ok (1h03)
- Video playback: ok (4h15)
- CatZilla performance test: ok (21,936 pts)
- Monster Hunter performance test: ok (12,825 pts)
- Heavensward performance test: ok (11,395 pts)
- 3DMark Fire Strike performance test: ok (12,037 pts)
- 3DMark Time Spy performance test: ok (3,647 pts)
- Furmark test: ok (62h / 69°C)
=> Fault not found
I will still check the heat level of my tower, but it surprises me. And not overclocking the CPU either.

Would this power supply work for me?
https://www.cdiscount.com/informatique/alimentation-pc/corsair-alimentation-pc-vs550/f-10775-cp9020097eu.html#mpos=0|cd
I'm talking about quality and power supply.
Basically, if changing it works, I'll keep it; otherwise, I'll return it.

It depends... if your processor is an ix-4xxx, ix-5xxx, or ix-6xxx, you would need a power supply that supports C6/C7 sleep states. And while you're at it, go for a power supply certified better than that in terms of energy efficiency, which also indicates quality, reliability, and good long-term performance.
Something like this, you know...
Just for your information, there’s a reason why this power supply costs less than half the price of this one. -

We're in agreement that it's the same?
