Hello,

I have an old push-button phone from the 80s.

After several searches, I found some information to connect it to my box, but only for dial phones (with an adapter that doesn’t work on push-button ones).

I can receive calls but cannot make any. Any ideas? Thank you.

Hello,
in bits and pieces...
you should have somewhere a FV/DC switch (tone/pulse) on it.
it needs to be set to voice frequencies.
for example:
See marker 2 here

and ... There you go!

I'm back... yes I know I'm not quick

so it's a mystery, I haven't done anything and now I have a tone. Except that I can't make calls. I dialed 14 by chance and the response was that the number is not assigned, which is normal, but if I call on a landline or a mobile, there is still the initial dial tone.

Any ideas? Thank you

  The continuous tone (inviting to number) is the least of things; if you don't have it, there's no point in numbering.
  Do you know if you number impulses or vocal frequencies?
  The sound is not the same.
  Impulses... tap tap tap tap.
  Frequencies tu tu tu (the note of each tu is not the same).

Well, here I am at the office, I don't have that kind of button on the phone or I can't see it.
I have this kind of phone maybe it is too old?

  it seems to me that there were two models but it was by design, either impulses only or FV impulses afterwards.
  to check, but I can't find any reliable sources.
  If it doesn't have an internal converter, an external one needs to be added.

  I have already looked into the topic of "pulse to tone" (a small box that converts pulses) and I contacted a seller (http://www.letelephonevintage.com/pages/Les_accessoires_dispos-5527312.html) who told me that it is only for rotary phones... now I am confused.

  this first generation of push-button phones also generated pulses, like rotary dials; the transition did not happen all at once.

  it should be possible to test it on a real Orange landline to see the actual functioning.
  But if it doesn't dial when connected to a box, it should work with an adapter.
