Hello,
For the past month, my Asus laptop has been shutting down by itself all of a sudden, as if I were holding down the power button for a long time.

Here’s what I’ve already tried doing:
- opening the laptop to clean out all the dust and all the fans.
- trying to use it with the battery removed and plugged in.
- trying to use it without being plugged in.
- turning it on without using it, meaning I don’t launch any software.
- checking the temperature of the components -> results: normal temperature

All these tests have yielded no results, and every time the laptop shuts down after exactly 30 minutes (I’ve timed it each time).

I will soon try to put it to sleep a little before the fatal 30 minutes, but in any case, what’s certain is that the problem is software-related.

It’s really a problem to be capped at 30 minutes, and I plan to see a technician in a shop, but I’d like to check if there isn’t a simple solution so I don’t have to pay for something trivial.

I really hope someone can help me.
Thank you in advance.

Hello,

I have exactly the same problem with an ASUS.
It has been crashing for 6-7 months for no reason, sometimes consecutively, but it also managed to go 2-3 days without crashing. In short, it was already hardly bearable, and I took it to a technician who found nothing...
So, it continued to crash irregularly and randomly... However, for the past 2 days, it has gotten worse, as it crashes after EXACTLY 30 minutes... And this is irreparable...
I can't access the BIOS on startup, so I don't know if it's the processor that's at fault...

Did you eventually find a solution?

I also have the same problem with my ASUS laptop

It shuts down exactly after 30 minutes, I have timed it several times and I don't know what to do to remedy this situation

Hello,

You should create your own topic, because you are in an old discussion that is closed from another person.

(and take the opportunity to specify your computer model)

Hello, I had the same issue with my Asus S56C; it shut down every 30 minutes, and the HDMI port only worked poorly. I found it strange that it could be the processor, so I simply reset my PC, and miracle, no more issues. I left the PC running for about 3 hours, no shutdowns, and no problems since, the HDMI is working great... so it was indeed a software problem... So before buying a processor, consider resetting your PC to factory settings; it works, and it's free :)

Don't waste your time with that, I can confirm 100% that it's not malicious. I reinstalled Windows 7 without drivers, without updates, without anything else, and the same thing happened after 30 minutes. I reinstalled Windows 8 under the same conditions, and it was the same. Contrary to what one might think, it's not related to the software because even while staying in the BIOS, after 30 minutes... POP.

I tried to update the BIOS of my client's machine, but the manufacturer (Sony) has never done it, and it seems that even reinstalling it is not possible.

Is everything original on your machine, or have you changed any components? (HDD - SSD - CPU - RAM)?

Did the problem occur after any changes on your part?

It reassures me that it's not malicious. Yes, everything is original; I had never disassembled it before this. The only thing I could do was install a version of Windows 8 Pro with a bad key, and since then I have a message that constantly displays, saying: "Activate Windows, Go to PC settings to activate Windows."
I have therefore tried to restore my original version, but I was unable to do so.
However, my computer problem occurred much later, almost a year later, so I don't think it's related.

I fixed the Windows activation issue, and the bug is still there, so I will try to switch to Windows 10 tonight.

This has nothing to do with your version of Windows, test staying in the BIOS and check for a shutdown after 30 minutes. I solved my problem and it was due to the processor; I changed the CPU and the PC runs perfectly, no more systematic shutdowns after 30 minutes.

But if the BIOS test on your end shuts down after 30 minutes, it’s the same as mine, purely hardware-related and specifically, the processor.

Best regards.

Alright, I will give it a try; otherwise, I will change my process.
Thank you very much.
Best regards.

I just tested it twice and even in the BIOS, the computer shuts down after exactly 30 minutes.
However, I don't understand why my processor is doing this when I've never done anything wrong on the computer, and especially why exactly 30 minutes.

Hello,

Does your PC shut down suddenly (in the blink of an eye?) or does it shut down as usual, like (desktop icons disappearing first, then the message ("shutting down")...) ?

Hello,

For my part, it simply crashes after 30 minutes. It just shuts down in the blink of an eye...

little keyboard tip:

- Windows key + R
- copy and paste this into the box: chkdsk /f /r
- answer the question by typing Y and hitting ENTER
- restart your PC without TOUCHING anything, a complete scan + repair of any system and registry errors will take place (it will take about 1 hour).
- at the end of the scan, your PC will restart and return to the desktop.

If the problem is solved, ... happy for you ^^

best regards

I tried this method, and once the command was launched, I restarted my PC directly, but it didn't analyze anything at all upon restart...

Sincerely

Il faudra donc commencer par détecter le logiciel qui pose le problème et le désinstaller. Si le problème n'est pas logiciel, je vous conseille de renouveler la pâte thermique du processeur, cela pourra résoudre le problème.

I agree with you and I was also planning to go down this path, but I don't know how I could proceed.
Maybe there is some software that could help me.

Good evening,

I have the same problem and it's clearly not a temperature issue because on the laptop I'm currently working on, it shuts down completely every 32 minutes. It's not a BIOS issue either, power supply tested okay, PC running idle or under full load (OCCT), same reaction. I'm trying to understand the problem as well.

Are you experiencing the issue following a downgrade from the originally installed Windows 8 to Windows 7?

I really think the problem comes from a malicious program, but I don't see how to find it.
No, I bought my computer with Windows 8 already installed.
