Materials used:
Canon 5550 printer working via WIFI for reproduction by printing.
PC: Windows 10

I would like to scan a document, but the printer displays the following message: configure the PC to start the scanning process.
What should I do?
I am a novice and request assistance to solve this problem.

I'm trying to solve the same problem with my daughter.

I tried scanning through a different process that I thought I would find in the device settings on the computer instead of the printer window, but without success.
Have you made any progress on your side?

However, it is risky to ask for a solution without specifying the model of your printer, the version of Windows, and possibly your computer.

Have you installed the appropriate version of the driver in case of a Windows version change?

It should be noted that a Windows update can disrupt the connection to the printer (this happened to me a few days ago during a Windows update on the "anniversary version". You then need to "add" the printer as if it were the first day.

Finally, Wi-Fi operation is sometimes not guaranteed in "network" mode, which is the mode for Wi-Fi connection. You might need to check this (by connecting via USB) if the latest driver only supports printing and not scanning, which is abnormal but can be verified if the printer manufacturer does not provide an updated driver.

Edit: Moreover, the simplest test is done through the Paint software (Windows Accessories folder, "from a scanner or camera" function, choose to save a .jpg or print a .pdf).

Avoid any scan button located on the printer, which in my case (Brother Laser printer) is inactive.
