Hello everyone,
I am a customer at Free and I have the Freebox V5.
My internet box is in my bedroom and my TV box is in the living room. The two boxes are connected by freeplugs.
However, I keep experiencing random image freezes on my TV, indefinite stops, and the message "Rock'n'roll: invalid return code" every time I start up my TV box... I've spent hours on the phone with Free who haven't found any solution for me....
We tested it when both my freeplugs were in the same room and it worked much better... but since I can't leave them in the same room for regular use, my problems returned when I separated the boxes.
I think quite simply that they are too far apart, and that there’s too much interference between them.
Is there some kind of "CPL repeater" that I could plug in halfway between my two freeplugs to improve the connection? Or would buying a third freeplug help?
Does anyone have a solution to suggest, please?
Thank you :)

Hello,
Could you provide us with additional information to assist you?
What is the approximate distance between the powerline adapters, in the same building? (House or apartment?)
Have you checked that they are connected to the same electrical network, without any circuit breakers in between?
Interference is generally limited in powerline networking, with the data transmitted over the home's electrical current.
It is possible to connect them "in series," one after the other, to increase the range, but generally, powerline ranges are in the hundreds of meters (of electrical cable).
There are also powerline adapters that emit Wi-Fi, or it is possible to add amplifiers (not recommended in houses with stone walls, near large load-bearing walls, etc.).
Best regards,

Best regards,
First of all, thank you for getting back to me.
Regarding the information: I live in an old apartment (so thick walls, etc.), and there are about a good ten meters separating the 2 powerline adapters (with quite a few corners).
I am pretty sure they are connected to the same electrical network.
This morning, I downloaded the software "Lea SoftPlug" which allows you to manage your plugs and I started to see things more clearly. The plug connected to my internet box was identified normally; however, the plug for my TV box was connected to an "unidentified device"... I find that quite strange... so I restarted the plug using this software and manually paired it with the box. There wasn't a "TV Box" option, so I selected that it was a game console. But today, my TV box worked fine... No freezing, no error messages... the speed seemed good... I find that quite surprising.
What do you think?
Best regards
And thank you!
Sorry for the delay, I was a little busy.
The distance is good, the network seems fine as well, and with such a short distance, interference is often not the cause.
I think that, as you said, you resolved the issue on your own.
The problem was likely related to the automatic device pairing protocol; by selecting "Console or TV," the adapter has been properly reconfigured.
When you moved/disconnected a powerline adapter, it may no longer be recognized, as its position on the network changes and it can become unconfigured during the process. This often has no impact over short distances (like within the same room) because all the outlets in that room are connected to the same electrical cable (it’s like reconnecting it in the same place).
By redoing the manual configuration, you have redefined the "roles" and positions of the powerline adapters relative to each other, thus restoring communication.
Feel free to give me feedback if your issue returns,
Best regards,
Thank you for your response.
