Fransat Terbox HD Decoder Issue

Solved

Hello,
for a week now, my Fransat Metronic Terbox HD decoder has been stuck. I called Fransat, who directed me to Metronic, and they couldn't find a solution other than to say that I need to send it back to them so they can diagnose the issue and give me a quote. Since the device is no longer under warranty, I won't be sending it back.

So, back to the problem, last week, I was switching channels when the decoder restarted and displayed a screen saying "no regional programs found," and since then, nothing works; on the decoder's screen, channel 0 is indicated.

Configuration: Windows 7 / Mozilla 11.0

I have of course tried various methods to try to unblock it (unplugging for a certain time (5 min, 24h), plugging it back in without the antenna, but it's always the same; the decoder always goes back to this screen, and it's impossible to do anything else, with or without the Fransat card, it’s the same... I don't know what to do; it's the only HD decoder I had; I've had to reconnect an SD decoder to watch TV, but on April 25, I won't have anything anymore...

Same issue with a terbox HD PVR for a week now, displaying "regional channels" and as soon as you touch the remote, it reboots to the same screen... frustrating.

I contacted Metronic, and they told me that they have encountered a similar issue in their support service and that it’s the Fransat update that has blocked the device.

They are asking me to send mine in for support if it’s still under warranty.

It is no longer under warranty, and even though Metronic is not responsible for the Fransat updates, I find this situation unacceptable; it’s not the user’s fault.

Last episode, Metronic offers me a repair out of warranty for €89.

    Outrageous...

You can be sure that I tried everything, it was working fine before, it’s definitely an HD, and the card too. No USB port.
Resetting is only available through the menu, but since the decoder is locked, it's not possible.
Metronic told me to unplug everything for 5 minutes, then plug in the power and the TV, and then the satellite cable. I tried every way but nothing works, still the screen I photographed keeps coming back after startup.

Maybe he had a satellite update and it crashed.

Yes, my 55" Philips TV purchased 3 years ago for €1300 has a faulty screen (black scratches all over the screen, quote of €1400 from Leclerc). For a month now, I also have to change it.
I thought I would get a TV with a CI+ module, but that limits my choice to Samsung or LG (the Panasonic multimedia player does not read DTS).

Absolutely the same symptoms, it’s disgraceful... and I'm sure we're not the only ones, they must have rolled out an update knowing it would mess up certain older generation HD decoders, just to make sure everyone buys new decoders during this period... it's a conspiracy.

As I said, I plugged in my Fransat SD decoder instead, and there is no reception problem. The Terbox HD decoder is stuck, with no way to display the menu screen or anything else. I only get the screen showing "no regional program found," with or without a card, with or without an antenna cable, even after completely unplugging it for 2 days, this screen keeps coming back.

No existing update, no firmware to "boot" from a USB key, nothing in the manual, no reset possible. To fix it, I don't know if it's worth it. Is it written HD on the board? Is the board the right way (I know it's silly).
Otherwise, switch to Aston, at least it's serious: https://www.homecine-compare.com/lecteur-ASTMAYHDCON-ASTON-MAYA-HD-Connect.htm

Did you restart your decoder (unplugging and plugging it back in)?

Yes, I tried all the possibilities.
Restarting without connecting the antenna, without the card...
Each time the result is the same, it turns on and stays stuck on the regional channels menu and it's impossible to do anything.

      Isn't the remote control stuck?

In my case, pressing any button on the remote control or on the device's front panel causes a reboot...

Otherwise, does anyone know if it's possible to install an update via USB key?
    And where to find it?

I searched everywhere and didn't find a way to update it other than through the satellite's automatic service...

for many it's a factory return and, as is often the case outside the warranty period, it comes at a cost...

Price of a Fransat, starting from €99

Same problem with Metronic hd pvr terminal.
The device was stuck on the selection of the regional channel France 3.

Here’s how I solved the problem: unplug the power, the antenna, the HDMI and remove the card.

Reconnect a SCART, then the power. Once it started, I could choose the France 3 region. Go through the terminal menu to reset the device, then do another channel search, still using the SCART and reconnecting the antenna.

Once finished, I turned off the device, reconnected the HDMI, and reinserted the card. Since then, I have had no problems.

No results with your procedure, loulou.
When it starts up, it’s stuck on the regional channels and impossible to do anything.
      How to reset it?

Thank you Loulou, your procedure works, without losing the configuration of the decoder. After the reboot, I was able to scroll through the regional channels with the horizontal arrows, I went back to the one where I was stuck (France 3 Reims), OK, automatic reboot, and everything is fine. This is the second time in 2 years that the Fransat update has done this to me.

Hello, you could try it elsewhere, or use a Fransat decoder with the same satellite reception?

    Hello,

I just had the issue with someone (with another brand), I couldn't do anything to restart it...

Going back to the purchasing stage.

it's the law of the consumer society we live in, and as soon as you have a problem, it's nobody's fault and you have to pay.
I can't wait for it to stop.

The worst part is that I'm actually looking to buy another one, and it seems even worse than before; they are all the same decoders, just branded under different names, and it's all crap. Soon, TV will only be for wealthy people.

If you have to change your decoder every 4 or 5 years (and I have 3) to keep up with technology or because they break down beforehand, with the license fee, you already need a budget of €200-€250 per year just to have the right to access the channels. Then there's the equipment; most LED TVs have a lifespan of 5 years (mine, a Philips that cost €1500, broke down after 3 years, faulty panel, €1400 estimate).
It gets really, really expensive to watch rubbish; we're really reaching the end of a system...

I have another one, a Diva HD Premium model from the brand Aston that is 5 years old and has never had any issues if that can help you...

It was a bit buggy at first since it was a new product, but the updates quickly fixed the problems (and didn’t bring any new ones).

It's clear, I didn't even send it back because I knew in advance that their quote would exceed the value of the decoder (that's normal, it's business).
I sold my HD card for €30 and bought a Starcom decoder for €58 including shipping on LeBonCoin.

At least I think the price of €89 is set, not because of the malfunction (since it can be unlocked in 30 seconds), but based on the price of the cheapest Fransat decoders on the market, which is €99.
So what are you going to do? Are you going to let them keep it? This way they will be able to resell it once it's unlocked.
