Convert a PPSX to PPS

Hello,
How to convert a ppsx file to pps...I have Windows 10 but PowerPoint 2007. Currently when I receive a ppsx, it opens in PowerPoint Viewer. To view it, I have to go to "Slide Show" and "From Beginning to end." I would like it to open in full screen like a pps when I receive it as an attachment.

    Hello,

it opens on the PowerPoint viewer.
No, it opens with PowerPoint 2007 and that is why you must perform your manipulations.
    In Control Panel\All Control Panels\Default Programs\Set Associations
Select ppsx and assign the viewer to it.

When I open the slideshows with the viewer, it works for a good portion of them... For some, it doesn’t; I don’t hear the music with the viewer... And I find it annoying to have to explain this to those I send them to... I would like them to be able to open just by clicking on the attachment... Maybe once I’ve made the changes suggested in the control panel...

Hello | And thank you for your response which solves 80% of my problem. Because it doesn’t work for all slideshows... Most people I send them to can view and hear the music just by clicking on the attachment without having to go back into the viewer... Me, I have charming Windows 10 with no extension... I’m starting to think the problem is there... With my laptop, a good old Windows XP, the slideshows open without any problem. I wonder whether installing PowerPoint 2016 would fix the problem?? Currently, I have PowerPoint 2007 with Windows 10.

    Hello,

First, I disagree with gbinforme (sorry ;)) : If PowerPoint is installed on your PC, the viewer is completely useless and duplicates functionality. A PPS or PPSX file should open automatically in slideshow mode since it is a slideshow format.
First of all I would therefore advise you not to remove the viewer.
Then, if the file does not open in slideshow mode, it is not the file's fault, nor PowerPoint's, but the mail client. Save your file to the hard drive, and open it, you will see the slideshow will start automatically.

If you don't have PowerPoint on your PC, that's where the viewer becomes mandatory.
For sound issues, it's something else: is the sound embedded in the presentation or linked? Does the PC have the right CODECs? If PowerPoint is not on the PC, is there the latest version of the viewer? etc.

Thank you for your reply. I will check all that. I also want to add some details. On my current computer, I have Windows 10, but PowerPoint 2007... If I installed PowerPoint 2016, could that solve the problem? Because the same slide shows that I can't listen to (see and hear) with my Windows 10, I can listen to them on my laptop with the good old Windows XP... which opens them just by clicking on the attachment. Since the charming Windows 10 doesn’t recognize many extensions... Could that be part of the problem???

For your PowerPoint version, the answer is no. PowerPoint 2016 will not solve this opening issue. Regardless of the PowerPoint version, a slideshow (pps for versions before 2007 and ppsx since 2007) opens by default in slideshow mode when you double-click it. And, risking repetition, regarding the sound problem I’m sticking with my first approach: if you say the sound is recognized under Windows XP, it’s probably because a codec is missing for it to be read with your Windows 10. It’s not a matter of the file extension: a 2007 and a 2016 slideshow have the same extension and the same format. If it is indeed a codec problem, I suggest you install this: https://www.commentcamarche.net/telecharger/tv-video/13169-k-lite-codec-pack-full/ which is really good.

I downloaded the K-Lite Codec Pack Full and my file still doesn’t open full screen when I double-click. It still opens in the same place in PowerPoint where you normally edit the slideshow, and I still have to click on Slideshow and then “Watch from the Beginning.” After all that hassle, I see it and I hear the music. And as before, if I open it with the viewer, it opens full screen but I no longer have the music. I even tried opening it with K-Lite Codec Pack Full to see what happens... It outputs a sound file, and I hear the music but of course no image. I hope I downloaded it correctly... I’ll have someone more knowledgeable double-check it... I understood that this download brings missing codecs to Windows 10 to assist PowerPoint, right????

      - The codec pack is not designed to open the slideshow but to play the music.

For the viewer, I have said and I repeat that it is useless if you have PowerPoint. Moreover, I still don’t know if you open the file from the mailbox or from Explorer. If it’s from Explorer, a double-click should open directly in slideshow since the default action for a double-click is View. If it’s from the mailbox, that’s another problem.
