Blue screen after a failed overclock.

Good evening,

Yesterday I tried to overclock my I7-4790k processor using the easy tuning of my Asus gamer-pro motherboard, but it failed.

I reset my BIOS to default, but the blue screen remained, so I tried to factory reset my HDD; the blue screen still appeared, but it came back much less often.

Now I have to reinstall some drivers through Windows update, but every time Windows tries to install the update, I get hit with a blue screen.

My computer is new (6 months), and the main specs are:

Motherboard: Asus Z97 Gamer-Pro

Processor: Intel i7-4790k 4 GHz

RAM: Corsair HyperX 2x8 GB 1600 MHz

Graphics card: Gainward phantom gtx980

If you need more information, let me know, and thanks for the help.

EDIT: I tested both RAM sticks one by one, and the issue persists. I also canceled the Windows update by booting into safe mode, but I still get a BSOD after a while, and finally, I tried gradually increasing the voltage to my processor, but it was unsuccessful.

Hi, in my opinion, you won't be able to do anything because your motherboard must have overheated so it's fried; overclocking makes the motherboard heat up because we increase its power.
You need to change your PC.
Still, make sure to check in a computer store!!

Hi and thank you for your reply, but just to not freak out for nothing, do you have experience in this area? Because I saw quite a few people who had the same problem and were able to solve it, but it was in English and I was able to use my PC for a while before using Windows Update.

I know a bit about overclocking, I did it with my PC and I know it increases the temperature of the motherboard. Mine overheated and I got a blue screen, so I replaced it and my PC worked fine (but I lost all my data). However, replacing the motherboard is expensive!

    Hello,

Unlike airplane, I still doubt that your card has been damaged and I believe the problem is more software-related than anything else.

It takes a lot to fry a motherboard, bypass BIOS security, and be unlucky because the card is somewhat designed for that.

Was the PC delivered to you with Windows installed? If so and it’s 6 months old, everything is still under warranty... Just "forget" to mention that you tried to overclock it if you return it, and make sure there are no pirated software.

Otherwise, there are several possibilities ranging from reinstalling Windows to a complete re-detection of the hardware configuration... Check the device manager. If the BSOD (blue screen) mentions a particular driver, we can discuss it... You mentioned restoring to factory settings, does that mean a complete reinstallation of Windows?

You may stop me but you can't stop us all ;-)

So yes, when I talk about the restaurant, I removed everything from my HDD and no, I built my PC myself and I installed Windows 7 myself, and I will check the device manager. Thank you for your response and sorry for the writing, I'm on my phone.

So I’m sure I haven’t burnt out my motherboard. I did a system restore and I don’t have BSODs all the time anymore, but I still get them occasionally.

The image of the B.S.O.D if it can help you, just tell me which part to change or at worst if you have no idea how to fix the problem or if it’s impossible, I don’t really know.

Because clearly I’m struggling, I can't do Windows Update even manually.

You wouldn't have any /!\ warnings in the device manager? Try updating the USB drivers or uninstalling them to force a reinstallation (be careful, no keyboard or mouse for a few seconds at the beginning of the reinstallation)...
A priori, according to the BSOD, this might be the cause.
