Hello

I need your help with a Samsung External Hard Drive.
I am not very knowledgeable about computers...
Every time I connect it, it starts automatically and is named SAMSUNG
However, not today!
It remains under drive G and I cannot open it. Of course, I would like to retrieve what is on it. It's mainly just photos! ALL my photos!!!!
Following other discussions on your site, I saw that I need to do a chkdsk. For now, it's still running and I think it will take a while. But apparently, about a hundred files are in unreadable recording segments!
Can I repair them???? What could be the cause??
I really want to recover all my data!
Thank you for your help.

Hello

My chkdsk command can repair damaged files IF the sector containing them is still copyable.
There are utilities that do the same kind of job.

However, there is no guarantee of recovery when performing a repair; it all depends on the cause of the failure.

In computing, important information should never be stored on a single medium. At a minimum, it should be duplicated, either on another disk or in the cloud. That's the only guarantee.

Hard drives, USB keys, and other storage media are all weak and fail much more often than one might think.
