Hello,
I have a damaged external hard drive and I want to repair it. When I connect the drive to my PC (Windows 10) via USB cable, the HDD makes an unusual sound.
I want my drive to be repaired without losing my data, so I tried the chkdsk F: /F /R /X command.
The scan starts, but I noticed this message:
- The file record segment ***** is unreadable.
It repeats more than 50 times, and the estimated time increases over time.
This message indicates the estimated time:
Progress status: 792838 of 3200000 completed; Step: 24%; Total: 0%; Estimated finish time: 400:32:22.
Is this normal?
If it takes more than 10 hours, can I stop it?

A hard drive cannot be repaired, so if you still can, recover the retrievable data and buy a new hard drive.
