Hello everyone,

I want to restore Windows on my Acer Aspire 5600.
For that, I need the Empowering Technology password.

Where can I find this password? Is there a standard password?

Thanks to those who take the time to respond to me.
Configuration: Windows 98 Internet Explorer 6.0

The solution after 2 days of struggle :)

The password is contained in the file "aimdrs.dat" in the recovery partition.
To make the partition visible under Windows, there is the ACER utility: MBRwrWin.exe

- launch "Run"
- type: "C:\Acer\Empowering Technology\eRecovery\MBRwrWin.exe" mount hd0:1 R: (check first that there is no R: drive)
- then just read the file "aimdrs.dat" to obtain the erecovery password.
- and to delete the password, simply delete this file.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!! Actually, I had typed my usual password in uppercase :D!
PS: The file aimdrs.dat opens with Notepad.

Good evening,

As my PC cannot connect, I have to use a boot CD like ERD Commander 2005 to recover this password.
From there, when I type the command: "C:\Acer\Empowering Technology\eRecovery\MBRwrWin.exe" mount hd0:1 R:
It doesn't work.

Do I need to respect the "" and all the spaces?

Thank you in advance.

Thank you very much for the tip, it works very well and it goes straight to the heart of the problem.
Yes, you need to respect the "" and the spacing because it's a command.
Thanks again.

I did what you said, but when I run MBRwrWin.exe it writes to me in a MS-DOS window:
no data read
Error while Writing to

Am I doing it wrong or is there another issue?
thank you in advance

Hello,

I have an update regarding the Empowering Technology password.

When you want to restore the system using Alt + F10 at startup.

The password is the one you entered the very first time you used your PC.

However, the password is coded, and you need to change the following letters:

a becomes q
w becomes z
and m becomes ,

for example, acer becomes qcer

There you go, this should help you try all the passwords you might have entered at startup.

@ jopops17

what happens to the m?

Hello,

the m becomes a comma

there you go.

Hello,

I would like to format my PC, which is an Acer Aspire 9300, but it asks for a password that I don't know. I tried 000000, 123456, and the personal passwords I frequently use, but none of them work. Do you have any idea what I can do?
Thanks a lot.

First, you need another PC capable of burning image CDs (if you have Vista, that's perfect).
To start, turn on your functioning PC and go here: http://toutoulinux.free.fr/ and download the first file (Toutou Linux 4.1.2 Link 1 at TUXFAMILY.ORG). Then you need to burn this file as an image CD.
Next, boot the PC with the CD inside. If it doesn't start automatically, restart the PC, enter the setup at startup (F2 for me) and enable boot (F12) by setting it to enabled. Then exit and save changes. The PC will restart; press F12 to select the drive and the CD will start. Your PC will then display this: http://www.pc-infopratique.com/images/banque/boot1.jpg let it do its thing. Then you will have some options to select; change nothing and always press enter except when choosing the keyboard where you choose French of course (like here http://www.pc-infopratique.com/images/banque/boot3.jpg
Once Linux is running, open the smallest partition at the bottom left. Find the file folder "aimdrs.dat"
Right-click, open with text editor, and the paired password will be here (for me it was benjamin). The PC displays this
[MyData]
PD=benjamin
HT=

and there you will see your password displayed. If this doesn't work, restart the CD and do exactly the same: reopen
the smallest partition at the bottom left. Find the file folder "aimdrs.dat"
Right-click, open with text editor, and the paired password will be here (for me it was benjamin). The PC displays this
[MyData]
PD=benjamin
HT=
highlight the word, for me benjamin to obtain this
[MyData]
PD=
HT=
Close the text editor while saving the changes when prompted upon closing.
Then turn off the PC. Restart by pressing Alt F10, factory system restore and there, like magic, no need for a password anymore. And then you will be at peace with your PC.

Hello everyone, I have a problem with my Acer Aspire 7003 WSMi.
I want to restore the system but I have lost my Acer Empowering Technology password.
At startup, I press Alt+F10 and it works great, but then I am asked for the password, and without it, I can't do anything.
Where could I find it? What steps can I take, and if possible, without going through Acer's customer service which is very slow? Thank you in advance.

Hello, I have the exact same problem as you..

If you have found a solution, could you please share it with me? Because right now I don't see how to proceed.

Even if you have the password, you must type with the QZTY keyboard, not AZRTY
otherwise, you will need to have recovery discs to restore your PC.

RE Younès
*You restart with the ToutouLinux CD in the drive (you might need to change the boot order so it starts, on Acer it should be F12 or the indication on the ACER logo during startup)
*Let it run to collect information and store it in memory.
*Everything is pre-set, except you need to change the language using the arrow keys on the keyboard, press enter whenever prompted. No installation is required, do not modify the option.
*Close the red warning window and click OK to continue.
*At the bottom left, you have all the partitions, the one we are interested in should be "SD1," just click on the icon to open it.
*In the window, check if you see the file "AIMDRS.DAT," right-click on it, open in text (also click on the eye in the top bar to show hidden folders)
*Your password is here, delete it and simply enter 000000 (six zeros) in eRecovery.
If you decide to keep it, some letters may change, the keyboard is in QWERTY with eRecovery, check the letter correspondence here: http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Correspondance_entre_le_clavier_qwerty_et_le_clavier_azerty
-----------------------------------------------
If this file is not present, you create it
*Right-click in the partition window, New, keep the selection highlighted, type directly AIMDRS.DAT, click on create.
*Right-click on this new file, open in text, either type 000000 (that's what I have on mine), or type:
[MyData]
PD=
HT=

*Click on close, in the window that opens, click on Save and close the window.
*Right-click again on the file you just created, Properties, uncheck Write and close everything.
*Remove the CD from the drive, click on Menu at the bottom left, session, and Shut down or Restart.
*No need to save, press Escape to close everything.
-------------------------------------------------
I just went through this procedure step by step to detail it as much as possible, it works 100%, if you modified something previously with your "PETDIT32," I can no longer help you.
A+

A jopops17, frankly you're too good, I've been looking for the password to reset (factory settings) my friend's PC (Acer Aspire 5720 GZ) for three days, here's the process I followed:

1. at startup Alt + F10
2. then choice 1 (for factory settings) and when it asks for the password, I click on advice and found a note, but when I entered that password nothing happened, so I read your post and then I replaced the letters with those you indicated, as for

the z is replaced by w
the a is replaced by q
...

I hope this helps a lot of people...

there you go

Yes, that's right, either the keyboard is in QWERTY, or if you have extra numbers like mine, it's just to not capitalize anything.

Anyway, I had to come to this forum just like customer service, they're really useless, they don't know anything, and they're not friendly at all, I almost got told off.
I used to work in an internet hotline (telemarketer and trainer responsible for a hotline) and I know it’s not easy and I was super polite with him, but he should have chosen another profession because if I had been his supervisor, he would have been out the door immediately.

Anyway, big thanks to you,

Acer should hire better people...

Hello,
after a mishap on my other Acer computer, I need to retrieve the empowering technology password that I completely forgot. I've tried the passwords 000000, 123456 but neither work, even when changing 'a' to 'q'... Acer's customer service can't help me. What should I do?

The password is the username you gave your computer. But be careful, the keyboard is in QWERTY, so the 'a' is a 'q', etc...

Hello lacharpente! I don't have any mice or external keyboards, I'm using those of my laptop, plus I don't know: "ToutouLinux"? Where can you find it? Is it a software?

What did you use and where did you get your AIMDRS.DAT file?
You don't know ToutouLinux? I told you to check post 132 on page 4, apparently you haven't done it.
How do you expect me to help you if you don't follow my advice?
See you later!

I searched for the file amdrs.dat in the hidden partition, but with another method using PETDIT32, this file does not exist! How can I create it with Toutoulinux?
I saw page 132, but there is no post 132! There are 131 and 133
Sorry if I disturbed you, but I am doing everything you advise, I swear! I'm very sorry, but believe me, I'm doing everything you ask. A+

Salut, j'ai eu le même problème que toi, alors t'as qu'à essayer le mot de passe utilisateur comme si tu démarrais ton PC. Si éventuellement t'as un code.
