Good evening,
I am having a major problem with my Peekton DVD player model PK6005 MKII. Yesterday, I was watching a DVD and suddenly, in the middle of the movie, it stopped, there was no more image on the TV, and no writing on the display showing the time of the DVD player. The blue light on the DVD player's display started blinking, and I couldn't restart it. Afterwards, it continued to blink, and I couldn't eject the DVD either, so I had to disassemble the player to retrieve it. What could be the cause of this? Is the player repairable or is it beyond saving? Anyway, it is over 10 years old.

I had the same problem, I changed a few capacitors and never had issues again

I did it myself. You need to know how to solder a component and be careful about the orientation when installing the capacitors. IT CAN EXPLODE if mounted the wrong way! There is one leg longer than the other and + - written on it.
You can take a photo to see how the old ones are positioned if you're worried about not remembering.
This is not microelectronics, but very simple electronics. I spent less than €2 on components at an electronics store.
A desoldering pump can help remove the solder and take out damaged components.
If they are bulging at the cross, then they need to be replaced.

Sometimes it bulges from underneath between the legs.
I replaced 3 or 4 just to be safe; I was sure about 2. Not so certain about the other 2.
If you don't have the tools,
You can also dismantle your DVD player, disconnect the elements, and unscrew the component boards. (Be careful not to touch the components with your hands, hold the boards by the edges)
You can then go to a specialized electronics store to have them replace the capacitors. If they are nice, they shouldn't charge you much. You can always ask beforehand. Explain that it's an old player, so you don't want to spend money on it, but you also don't want to waste it and throw it away for 3 damaged components.
