.lnk files

Hello,
I transferred files from my desktop PC (Windows 7) to my new laptop (Windows 10) using an external hard drive.
Everything went well, except that when I perform a maintenance with Glary Utilities, during the task "fixing shortcuts," the system hangs for several minutes on .lnk files in: C:\Users\my name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\
There are more than fifty .lnk files, and Glary hangs for over a minute for each file, which makes the "fixing shortcuts" scan take forever.
Each scan, Glary finds issues, repairs them (theoretically), and if I run a new scan, the same "problem files" are detected again.
I couldn't find "AppData" in the directory. And, of course, I don't have this problem on my desktop PC from which I copied the files.
I performed scans with Avast and Adwcleaner: they found nothing.

Thank you in advance for your help - Best regards

Configuration: Windows 10 64-bit - IE - Firefox (default) - CPU 2.16 GHz - RAM 4.00 GB - HDD 500 GB

Hi,

It's not really useful to empty this folder.
And there's nothing malicious about it.

Thank you, Malekal_morte-, for your help and your quick response.
The good point is, if I understood correctly, that there is no virus.
That being said, how can I make the Glary Utilities maintenance "normal," meaning in just a few minutes and not 45 minutes... If all it takes is to empty this .lnk files folder, I'm all for it.
What do you think?

I don't know much about Glary Utilities, but why are you running a "shortcut repair"? Are you having issues with Glary Utilities' problem detection?
Can you provide information on the shortcut problems detected by Glary Utilities?

Personally, I have only a moderate level of trust in these cleaners, which often create problems in the end.

""Shortcut Repair" is part of the list of tasks performed by Glary.
Generally, there are few problems and the task is completed in a few seconds even if some issues are detected and they are fixed within a few seconds as well.
However, Glary I have no issues, but I use these files that I just put on this PC already on 2 other PCs and I do not have this kind of problem.
Not only does Glary take 45 minutes to complete its "Shortcut Repair" task (which is already quite annoying), but it also means that something abnormal has happened.
All I can say is that when I see the files Glary is spending so much time on, they are all .lnk files and I have no .lnk files appearing in my registries. Some are titles of my ebooks (but not all), one is: "Uninstall a program (4).lnk" and others that are unrelated to each other. It's a bit of a mess.
So, even if the regular operation of the PC does not show any apparent issues, there may be a reason to investigate these abnormal .lnk folders."

In my first post, I indicated the location I cannot access to reach "Recent," where these .lnk files are located:
C:\Users\my name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\

Thank you Xelrox for your intervention.
I accessed roaming, then Microsoft, then Windows, but there is no "Recent". However, there is "Recent Documents": is it the same and do I need to delete the files that are there (they are all shortcuts)?

Ok, but do I need to delete the files that are there?

You're creating unnecessary problems for yourself by wanting to use those cleaners.

Press Windows + R
type cd "%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent"
This should take you to the Recent folder;
once inside:
rmdir /S .
it should ask you if you want to delete, you say yes.

But if the files remain, you don't care....

Hello,

I wasn’t available yesterday, hence my late reply.

When I type your line: cd "%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent", the system responds: "Windows cannot find 'cd'.

Hello, you simply put %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent

Thank you, jacques.gache, for your response.

I accessed the "Recent" file and emptied it.
However, the problem remains the same: Glary is lagging on .lnk files from the "Recent" file (which shouldn't be the case if the folder is empty).
When I access the "Recent" file again (which is actually named "Recent Documents" with an icon featuring a clock + a file with a photo + a photo symbol), I'm told that it is indeed empty, but when I request its properties, I get the response: Size 10.9 MB - Size on disk 11.7 MB - Content: 487 files, 2 folders ....

The files are not visible from the explorer.
You need to use the command prompt.

How to visualize these files?

Hello,
I imagine my case might not be very exciting, but how can I "see" these files using the command prompt?
Thank you.
