Hello everyone,
I don't know why or how, but all my files and programs have turned into an extension (at least what's written at the end) .Ink
I have no idea what it is or why, but I would really like it to go back
Thank you to everyone who took the time to read me.
I hope someone will have a solution
thanks again

Re
otherwise I found this

First, the extension is lnk and not Ink

Here is the solution to restore the functionality of shortcuts in Windows (tested with Windows 95 and 98).

Open Regedit and check or complete with the following keys:

IMPORTANT: The registry must be backed up before any manipulation (export it).

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{00021401-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\ProgID]
@="lnkfile"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\.lnk]
@="lnkfile"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\.lnk\ShellNew]
"Command"="RunDLL32 AppWiz.Cpl,NewLinkHere %1"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\.lnk\ShellEx\{BB2E617C-0920-11d1-9A0B-00C04FC2D6C1}]
@="{500202A0-731E-11d0-B829-00C04FD706EC}"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\lnkfile]
@="Shortcut"
"EditFlags"=dword:00000001
"IsShortcut"=""
"NeverShowExt"=""

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\lnkfile\CLSID]
@="{00021401-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\lnkfile\shellex\IconHandler]
@="{00021401-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\lnkfile\shellex\DropHandler]
@="{00021401-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\lnkfile\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\{00021401-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}]
@=""

@-> means default key

After these manipulations, the shortcuts should reappear. But you need to restart the PC to no longer display the .lnk extension on the screen

Hello there
I tried your solution but for me nothing works, the only way to open applications is to open them in Program Files!
Do you have any ideas?

Hello,

Sorry to bring up this dead-topic, but a friend encountered the same problem and I found a solution that I propose without having to format.
The modification proposals via the registry editor aren't possible since the executables no longer run...
To fix the problem (that's how I resolved it in my case), you just need to correct the associated file types, a part of the solution was provided above by Teddy-bear.

-Go to My Computer, in the menu: "Tools > Folder Options" then in the "File Types" tab.
-Click the "New" button. In the "File extension" box of the new window, enter LNK
-Click the "Advanced" button and select "Shortcut" from the dropdown menu. Confirm by clicking "OK".

With this first step, you should have restored the shortcuts on your desktop. But if you can't launch executables (.exe), then you also need to restore those.
To do this, create a new file extension:
-Go to My Computer, in the menu: "Tools > Folder Options" then in the "File Types" tab.
-Click the "New" button. In the "File extension" box of the new window, enter EXE
-Click the "Advanced" button and select "Application" from the dropdown menu. Confirm by clicking "OK".

Your applications are accessible again!
Hoping to have helped you ^^

I am willing to try the method, but I am on Vista and there is no My Computer - Tools - ... I only found Folder Options in Control Panel. But after that, the names are not the same anymore, and I don't know what to click on.
Thank you for your help.

Thank you very much, but I'm not sure I'm knowledgeable enough to do that and I have Windows XP. I also don't know how to back up the registry(!?!?).
I'll try a restoration...
By the way, I just checked with XP-Antispy, I had checked "always show known file extensions," I unchecked it then restarted, but the problem is still there

Re

I found you the following trick on SOS ordi

"go to Windows Explorer / folder options / file types, search for shortcut (LNK extension) click on modify and don't put anything in the actions
I think that should be enough
the path may not be exactly right as I don't have XP in front of me"

Merci bien.

Hello, so I think it's a virus that's causing this. If you haven't formatted the drive (disk or flash ..), your files are not lost. To display them (if you have XP PS2)
1 open the drive
2 tools
3 folder options
4 view
5 show hidden files (check this)
6 hide protected operating system files (uncheck this)
you will see the files hidden BY THE VIRUSES AND YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO DISABLE THIS HIDING

I found it in the Control Panel folder options and the box to hide extensions for known file types is already checked!!!
Strange, isn't it!

I think it comes from a virus!!!
Suddenly, all the .exe files, even in PdeC, and in the accessories menu, everything is .lnk!!!
In my opinion, we need to look into rundll32!!!
I picked up on this lead because at my place, NotePad++ always opens rundll32 every time I click on one of these damn shortcuts!
Or maybe it’s Microsoft who has found a way to block pirated programs! (that's my case, I only have that!!!)
The fastest response will be rewarded, take care...

I had the same problem as Quebeco.
I am running Windows XP.
By following Teddy Bear's instructions to the letter to modify the registry, the problem was resolved.
Thank you, Teddy Bear.

Hi everyone, for me, it's the same problem, except that when I open the registry, it suggests looking for a program on the internet to open it. Isn't that crazy?

Good evening

I had the same problem, and it's due to an important file in Windows that is damaged, likely caused by the confusion of several incompatible software.

The solution? There isn't one. This problem is clearly irreparable.
So prepare your formatting or your ghost, and let's go!
