Unable to partition my external hard drive

Solved

Hello everyone,

I recently acquired a 13-inch Macbook Pro and I wanted to partition my hard drive that I used with my desktop PC so that it would be compatible and I could use Time Machine to back up my data from my Mac.

However, after deleting all the data from my external hard drive (backed up elsewhere during the process), I still can't partition it..
I'm following the right steps, Disk Utility, etc., but the "Partition" option remains grayed out even after formatting it to MS-DOS (FAT). I looked for answers in other topics but couldn't find any, so I'm turning to you!

All other options are available: First Aid, Erase, Mount/Unmount, Info, etc., but the Partition option is not "clickable"

Wishing you a good Sunday and hoping for a response,

Paul

    Hello,

In this new version of the disk utility, changing the partition scheme, that is to say switching from MBR to GUID for example, is done from the "Erase" button. You will then have access to this choice:

This will erase all its content (so backup it, but you've already done that, so all is well...), then, in GUID, you will be able to partition it. Then format one partition as Mac OS and the other as MS DOS for example...
