Hello,

Following a power outage, when I restarted my laptop, it performed a chkdsk scan. During this scan, certain sectors were marked as "unreadable" and Windows warned me to back up my data. Since then, everything has been running fine, no slowness on the PC. I ran a test using CrystalDiskInfo, and it indicates caution on C5 with 8 unstable sectors. Should I be worried? Can a laptop's internal hard drive be replaced, and what is the approximate cost? I am attaching the CrystalDiskInfo report. Thank you for your help.

Hello.

CrystalDiskInfo >>> caution = The hard drive can last . . . 1 day or it can last 1 year or more. You can monitor your HDD using the software. If you hear a sound when it boots up, it means the HDD temperature is excessive. If the warning turns red, the HDD is done for.
Don't run too many chkdsk /f/r commands which might do more harm than good to the HDD.

Personally, I would clean the PC, remove all the software you don't use. Clean with CCleaner, and maybe even run ADW Cleaner to ensure a clean PC. Then perform a system image on an external HDD. This will back up all your personal files, Windows and its updates, Word if you have it . . . etc. If you have a lot of videos or images, it's better to cut and paste them onto the external HDD before creating this system image, otherwise it will take a long time to transfer.

As for the price, it remains affordable >>>

For disassembling and assembling the HDD, it's relatively easy if the hatch is located on the outside. For some PCs, however (very few), the HDD is inside, and therefore requires a minimum of knowledge. I didn't see the brand and model of your PC.

This is just a suggestion . . . Bye

PS = 19850 hours of service is starting to add up, especially for a laptop.
There's no point in rushing; you have to leave on time . . .

Thank you for your response, I have already backed up all my important files and I will change computers in 3-4 months if it lasts until then that would be perfect. I will run a CCleaner and any other tips to slightly extend the lifespan of the hard drive.

You're welcome . . . As for increasing the lifespan of a hard drive at the end of its life, we talk about putting less strain on it. But that doesn't say much more. Here’s part of a tutorial =

>>> Avoid overfilling your hard drive: overloaded, it will be less reliable.
- If you frequently add and delete files, you can occasionally perform a defragmentation. This operation, which involves reorganizing the files on the hard drive, will improve its performance.

Good to know. Despite all these precautions, a hard drive is not eternal. Its average lifespan is 5 to 7 years, and nothing can accurately predict when it will fail. "In any case, users will probably need to renew their equipment before then, as the storage capacity and transfer speeds of today's devices will seem low in a few years," predicts the marketing director of LaCie.<<<

We are talking here about an HDD like yours because, of course, it's out of the question to do defragmentations on an SSD.

Best regards . . . Bye
