Play a DVD with Windows 10 Solved

Hello,

I wanted to download Windows 10, but when I tried to read a DVD, it no longer worked. I read on forums that you need to buy an application, so I put Windows 8.1 back on my PC, but now I still can't read DVDs. When I put a DVD in, no window opens, and it just spins endlessly.
Does anyone know how to make it work again?

Hello,  People who say that you have to buy an application are completely missing the point. It is quite unfortunate that you downgraded your O.S. to Windows 8.1, as that operation was unnecessary.  To play DVDs on Windows 10, as well as virtually all video files, you just need to download the free VLC application.  You can download it directly from the publisher's site here:  http://www.videolan.org  Of course, you can choose to have the menus in French during installation. To play a DVD, click on Media\Open Disc\DVD\Play.  Judex No one is irreplaceable. But some are irreplaceable.

Download the DVD player for Windows 10 32-bit
Download the DVD player for Windows 10 64-bit

Create a directory "c:\temp2\"
Create a directory "c:\temp\" and place the .cab file inside.
Right-click on the .cab file, then choose "Extract".

Open a command prompt: Start / Run / cmd

Enter one of the following two commands:

32-bit:

msiexec /a c:\temp\windows10.0-kb3081704-x86.msi /qb TARGETDIR=c:\temp2

64-bit:

msiexec /a c:\temp\windows10.0-kb3081704-x64.msi /qb TARGETDIR=c:\temp2

Open PowerShell: Start / type Powershell, then right-click on Windows PowerShell and choose "Run as Administrator"

Enter the following command:

Add-AppxProvisionedPackage -Online -PackagePath c:\temp2\InstallDVDAppxPackage\cd0c0ffe0ee94518833e70b1e931fcff.appxbundle -LicensePath c:\temp2\InstallDVDAppxPackage\cd0c0ffe0ee94518833e70b1e931fcff_License1.xml

to read a DVD on Windows 10, use the built-in "Movies and TV" app
otherwise, you can install VLC and make it the default player
it’s the same in Windows 8: if Windows Media Player doesn’t support the format of your DVD or video, you won’t be able to play anything
unless you download the necessary codecs
VLC has the advantage of playing almost everything without adding anything

In this case, you need to look into cleaning the reading lens, or possibly the DVD player that might not be properly connected, or a missing driver, in short at a technical level rather than a Windows issue, whatever your version. Unless your DVDs are burned in such a special format that even VLC can't read them, which is highly unlikely... Have you tried with a regular commercial DVD? Just to check? And an audio CD?
