Hello everyone, here's my problem: I get the message "Input signal out of range, change setting to 1280x1024 - 60hz." I suppose you will tell me to check on an earlier screen or even to uninstall the graphics card and then reinstall it in Safe Mode, but the problem is that the computer receiving the message is running Windows 3.11 (1985-1993), so I don't know of any way to boot into Safe Mode with MS-DOS. If anyone can provide guidance on this issue... Thank you in advance.

The issue is not which command to choose but how to perform the same operation when I do not have access to the command prompt because I crash earlier. The software "Prelude," which has somewhat modified the computer, does not allow me to choose at startup how I want to boot. Instead, it offers to perform the calibration operations of the machine connected to the computer. This is why I need to find a solution without CMD command access, without the control panel, etc. So without access to the desktop. The problem is significant; I have sought assistance from many qualified people, and despite that, none have been able to solve this issue. This is a real challenge that I am presenting here.
Thank you for this information.
I think that:
- Either I use a Boot floppy as advised by Yclik.
- Or I will change the boot order in the BIOS and boot from A: a Windows 95 via CD to access my C: drive in order to replace the damaged file(s) with new files from B:

Hello,
Your problem may come from your resolution being too high, reduce it to 1280x1024 via the control panel - display - screen resolution.
Also, check your refresh rate by setting it to 60Hz in the control panel - display - screen resolution - advanced settings - monitor - monitor refresh rate.
You could also look at:
- cable issues (malfunction, bad connection)
- defective graphics card (test with Burnin Test) or outdated drivers (check on the MaConfig website)
- defective screen (try with another one)

Thank you for your response, but the issue is as follows: I can hardly access the control panel since I can't get past the BIOS. I would like to specify that I am in a W3.11 system that only uses MS-DOS. I also want to point out that the computer is used for a three-dimensional software connected to a three-dimensional machine (for metrology), and when starting the computer, it is necessary to perform manipulations of the X, Y, and Z axes before accessing the desktop. However, when I perform these manipulations, POOF! "Input signal out of range, change setting 1280 x 1024 -60Hz"
As for the rest, I had already tried with a new monitor, renewing the wiring related to the screen.
I hope to find a safe mode under MS-DOS, but the F8 key does not allow me to do so. I am stuck.

Hello...
You can try removing the battery from the motherboard for 10 minutes, then resetting it by putting it back and restarting; it might have fixed itself... but I'm not sure of anything!
Best regards,

I'm going to try this hoping it will also reset the graphics settings because the problem apparently comes from there.
Is it a graphics card or a chipset?
If it's a card, you can try to physically remove it and put it back, just in case... but I have to admit I've never seen a 3.11!

I will try it this way. Attention hearts, the graphics card is a Matrox 576-04 REV A. and it is a good graphics card. I hope that simply removing it will be enough to restore the basic graphical settings, you never know.

If you can't even start up properly, it's not a graphics card issue. How long have you been having this problem, and have you done anything particular in the meantime that caused it to start malfunctioning?
A priori, it still doesn't work. I wonder if we can reset from the F2 menu. The computer is a DELL (I know you're going to curse me, but it's my work computer). In the F2 menu, I can change many things such as:

The problem occurred when I wasn't there, but I was well explained the trigger: When one of my colleagues wanted to change the probe (let me remind you that it's a computer that assists a three-dimensional machine), the cursor wouldn't move and the command was unresponsive. So, he proceeded to reboot the PC, and upon restarting, the problem was still there.
As for the boot disk, I'm afraid I don't have one on hand. But if I find one, I will try this technique because it's true that with a newer model, I would have thought about booting via USB, so why not.

There is another issue: Booting a different or similar operating system on my computer will probably erase my software data, and I actually need the software that's on the PC, but the problem is that I no longer have the CDs for that software, so I can't afford to lose it. I will only reconsider this as a last resort.
The boot disk does not reinstall; it allows you to relaunch commands in MSDOS
(see my link in my last post)
see here to download
a startup file may be damaged due to the boot
From memory, there should be config.sys and autoexec.bat files in the root of the PC.

Additional information that I forgot to mention:
The screen is a monitor and when it is unplugged from the tower, if I turn it on, it shows me:

# VGA Input :__________________________None
# Mode :______________________________None

Well... it seems like it’s the screen itself that doesn’t want to! ;)
Have you tried the monitor’s OSD settings: degauss, auto...?

Here is what happens when I intervene in the monitor:
#################################################
#_______________________OSD control
#
#___________________Horizontal OSD position
#____________________Vertical OSD position
#_______________________OSD Timeout
#__________________________Cancel
#
#################################################
I had already thought about it, but I noticed that with a monitor of the same type connected to another machine, it didn't change anything.
Moreover, the horizontal or vertical movement does not affect my resolution, just the positioning of the screen's centering. At least, that's what I could observe.
