1920x1080 resolution out of range issue

Hello,
I just acquired a 22' ViewSonic VX2260wm Full HD monitor, and I have a good, recent PC with an ATI Radeon 4850HD graphics card.
When I try to set the resolution to 1920x1080, I get a black screen with a blue background message: out of range!
However, with a lower resolution, I get a similar message saying: for best picture use resolution 1920x1080.
It's quite a puzzle; according to my dealer, my PC should be able to display this type of resolution. If someone could help me, I would be greatly appreciative.

Out of Range means that the display settings (resolution, frequencies, etc.) exceed the capabilities of the screen.
It's not your PC that is at fault, but your screen: your PC sends a resolution of 1920x1080, but if your screen is limited to 1680x1050, which is more or less the standard currently for PC screens, it goes black (or blue) and shows you this message. Set it to a lower resolution, you won't see the difference (I'm on 1680x1050 on a 22" and I'm watching Blu-rays with perfect quality!)

Thank you for your replies, I finally found out where the problem was (I'm a BIG noob) sorry but this is my first "flat" screen. I had done the connections with the standard cables and I just understood that there was a different wiring for full HD on the screen and now I'm at 1900x1080, finally!
:)
:)
As I said earlier, when I had this problem, it was because my screen was connected with the wrong cable.
Make sure you are using the HDMI cable and not a standard cable (both are possible).

Personally, I have the same problem... but I only have one VGA cable.
I have 2 PCs and a 24-inch ASUS monitor.
My desktop computer is a Lenovo and it displays at 1920x1080 without any issues on the ASUS.
My personal computer is a Packard Bell, and it doesn't display above 1680x1050 even though Vista recognizes that the monitor could display more... I tried both 32 and 16 bits, but nothing works.
I couldn't change the frequency, but I know that 60Hz works (that's the frequency displayed with the Lenovo) but when it's the Packard Bell, it doesn't work... Any ideas?
I've spent quite a bit of time looking on English forums, and they are also struggling - no great solutions, except for using some complicated little utilities that are too much for a novice like me...

You might need to buy an HDMI cable or something like that if I'm not mistaken? VGA doesn't work in full HD.
I don't believe the connection is to blame, since I'm using the same one regardless of which PC I use.
The monitor is a low-end model that only has VGA input, but I know it accepts 1920x0180 at 60Hz since it works well with one PC, but not with the other.
So, I'm trying to figure out what's wrong with the other one, but I can't see it...

So maybe it's your graphics card that's not handling this resolution.
Anyway, I'm far from being an expert, good luck with your search.

Hi ... I know this topic was posted a long time ago, but anyway ... I would like to play a game and when I start the game, my screen goes black with a white square in the middle and on the white square it says: change setting to 1920X1080-60hz
I don't understand how to change it, but when I go to my screen menu, it shows at the bottom, 1024X768-60hz ... moreover, when I click the auto adjusting button, it tells me: recommended setting 1920X1080-60hz
Thanks in advance!
