Can I change the hard drive of my WD MyCloud?

Hello, it's been over a year since I've had a 2TB WD MyCloud. It’s starting to have a few bugs and I'm missing its lack of options. When I bought it, I wanted a simple network hard drive, but now (with more experience and knowledge) I would like to switch to a Synology NAS to benefit from a maximum of options that are relatively easy to configure.
In short, given the prices of Synology NAS, I would like to retrieve the 2TB hard drive from MyCloud to put it in the Synology and keep MyCloud for small backups by inserting an old hard drive (WD Green 80GB).
My question is this: if I transfer the system files to the other hard drive, will WD MyCloud work or will I have to buy a new hard drive to continue using it?
(I searched online, but since MyCloud is aimed at a public that can experiment in this area, I found nothing on this subject.)

Sorry for the 200 mistakes I must have left and thank you in advance! ;)

Hello rome54737,

I understand your desire to transfer the internal hard drive to another NAS, however, I would like to share with you an important detail. Indeed, replacing the hard drive of the WD My Cloud is not possible. Any attempt to do so will cancel a valid warranty and may damage the WD My Cloud in such a way that it will not function correctly afterwards. For this reason, I cannot recommend that you proceed with it.

As for the bugs you mentioned in your message, could you please clarify what they consist of? Have you installed the latest software update? If not yet done, I will send you an article that explains it: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=50lAhX . The procedure and precautions mentioned there will guide you through the steps to get there.

See you soon on the Forum :)

I just checked, it is up to date.
These are just simple little bugs in the interface, nothing serious. For example, I'm no longer receiving alert emails; I can't change the time zone anymore, and if I unplug and replug my external hard drive, the automatic backup doesn't reactivate (I need to recreate a safepoint).
As I said, it's a matter of money that I wanted to recover the WD MyCloud hard drive, it would have allowed me to save €100, which is not insignificant considering the price of Synology NAS.
And I would like to point out for those who read this forum and are considering purchasing a WD MyCloud that it is a product that works very well and that the few little problems I have do not hinder my daily use at all and are not mandatory after a year of use! If I want to get a Synology, it's because I have more experience in this area and they offer more options (at a higher price, of course).

Sannin_WD, since if your name is true you work at Western Digital, will it work if I recover the hard drive to transfer it into a Synology NAS, and later insert a new identical hard drive (a WD Red Edition 2TB) with the necessary system files, not to mention warranty? And I can't seem to find the warranty duration, I admit I forgot to check this information, can you inform me?

Thank you for your help ;)
