Hello there! First of all, sorry if the topic is placed in the wrong forum, I just registered. Here it is: I found a method to unlock my Philips DVDR-3355 DVD player by pressing a series of numbers on the remote, but I'm worried that afterward, the player won't be able to read the discs bought in region 2 anymore. Are there any risks that the player might not work anymore as well?

Thank you in advance for your responses!

Hello,

The principle of unlocking a DVD player is to be able to play any DVD movie released worldwide, that is to say regardless of their regions.
There is always a risk of rendering the device inoperable, but I don't think it is very significant.
Manufacturers advise against this practice, for example, the loss of warranty on non-multi-region devices, but considering the age of your player released in 2005...
The procedure is explained in this document by the way: https://www.homecine-compare.com/lecteur-PHIDVDR3355-PHILIPS-DVDR-3355.htm

Best regards

Hello
Yes, some sites talk about region unlocking and mention this risk:

"Loss of warranty."

"The region unlocking of the computer DVD drive itself is not addressed because it's a high-risk operation. A mishandling and your drive will no longer work."

"Caution: you need the precise and complete name of your burner, otherwise you risk loading an inappropriate firmware and hello damage."

"We obviously do not have all the models of DVD drives tested on this site, so we cannot guarantee the success of unlocking your device and we disclaim any responsibility for any damage suffered by your DVD drive as a result of this type of manipulation."

"Re-zoning a PC DVD drive is quite simple through firmware, but each DVD drive offers a limited number of region changes."

But you can also read (not personally tested):

"Stop unlocking your drives, use VLC to play DVDs...! You will be pleasantly surprised...!"

Thank you for your response, but I don't understand the part "The unlocking of the computer DVD player itself is not addressed because it is a high-risk operation. A mishandling and your player will no longer work." Can you explain it to me?
