Hello community. I have been a loyal reader of your site for a few years.
Thanks to you, I have been able to navigate the little traps of MS OFFICE up to version 2013. My operating system is Windows 8. The issue I am encountering is as follows: I would like to do a mail merge with Word and an Excel sheet of 423 rows. I cannot view the entire mail merge on the screen, knowing that the merge document (without photos or images) is 1.84 MB... Could you please tell me if there are any limitations?
Thank you for your responses and see you soon

    Good evening Pénélope

Just to reassure you: with Excel, there is a limit on the number of fields (255) in a standard mail merge which can actually be worked around, but with the records, having 432 rows, it is well below the mail merge limits.
I just uploaded a 10-page text document with 800 records to 2013, so it's a large document in the end, and it works without any issues.
I have no leads. Except to start another merge, test with a lighter main document... to see if it comes from the layout of your current file.

Hello, I just tried to open a merge file, but it's from an Access database, and that works. I've never done it from Excel.

Thank you for the quick response, but I don't know Access well enough to be able to use it.
    See you soon

It's not more complicated, maybe simpler, but maybe that's because I don't know Excel well, except for the pie charts, the updates in the calculations, and a few other functions. Good luck.

    Hello,

if your merge document is 1.84 MB, the merged document is therefore nearly 800 MB. However, the limit for opening Word files is 512 MB, with 32 MB for text. The problem may be there...

You can try splitting your mail merge by merging records but 10 at a time, you still won't be done. 1.84 MB of text alone (!) for a mail merge seems excessive to me. Unless there is a very good reason, a personalized cover letter might suffice and the complete document could be attached.
