FREEMAKE video converter is not working Solved

Question

Hello,

Could a kind soul help me, please? I wanted to download the Freemake Video Converter software, but on this site, it doesn't launch, and elsewhere, it indicates that this software is potentially dangerous because it contains a virus.
I had installed it before without any issue; earlier, I tried to use it by clicking on it, and it launches and then disappears. So I uninstalled it and reinstalled it, and that's when the problem with downloading it occurred. Thank you for helping me, please.

Configuration: Windows / Firefox 34.0

So when you click on the "Download" button, nothing happens, is that right?

2 possibilities:

1) It's your antivirus that is blocking the download, does it give you a warning about malware or something?

2) Not compatible with Windows 8.1 but only 8 (to be checked).

I will find out about the second point mentioned.

Yes, exactly, nothing happens on this site (CMC) when I click on "download", my antivirus doesn't give me a warning, however, if I go on other sites like 01download, my antivirus warns me that the software contains a virus. But usually, I only download from CMC for all software.

Maybe because I'm on W 8.1 as you said. Thanks for your help.

I think it must be a compatibility issue; on CCM, it only goes up to Windows 8, not 8.1, but I will still check with our authorities ;-)

It should still work because 8.1 is just an upgrade of 8, I will see ;-)

Here you go, I have a lead to explore:

I see at the bottom of your question: Configuration: Windows / Firefox 34.0

Are you trying to download with Firefox? If so, you should update it, as the current version is 34.0.5. It may be because you are still using version 34.0 that the download is not starting.

Here is the update link: --> https://support.mozilla.org/fr/kb/mettre-jour-firefox-derniere-version

Once that’s done, try downloading Freemake Video Converter again here on CCM.

I clicked on your link, and it clearly states that Firefox is up to date; I am on version 34.0.5.

I don't know why CCM indicates 34.0.

The problem likely comes from the version of W8; I am on 8.1.
I had already downloaded this software when I was still on W8, and then for a year, Windows "forced" me to switch to 8.1. That's why the download isn't working anymore.

Ah, I haven't read the other messages, so if it's compatible, where does the problem come from? I ran CCleaner, Malwarebytes, AdwCleaner, I don't have any virus issues anyway. :/

I'm sorry for the late response. While browsing, I read that my problem might be due to a registry issue, and when I had uninstalled Freemake, there was a message indicating that if I wanted to remove everything, I might affect the registry, but I completely overlooked it and clicked on it. As a result, I restored my PC to a point. That took some time, so I couldn't respond to you. I'm sorry.
My antivirus is Avira. Thank you for your help.

Even after restoring to a point, the problem remains; I've messed everything up. I'm completely out of my depth. Moreover, on CCleaner, the software is there but I can't even uninstall it. In short, I'm lost.

First, Lili, open Ccleaner (version 5.01.5075), click on "Cleaner", then on "Analyze", once the analysis is finished, click on "Run Cleaner".

Once that is done, click on "Registry", then on "Scan for Issues", when the scan is complete, click on "Fix Selected Issues", and finally, on "Fix All Selected Issues".

When all that is done, try again to delete/uninstall Freemake Video Converter if it is still present with Ccleaner.

So, I did exactly what you suggested, but Freemake is still present in the list of applications, and when I click on "uninstall," I receive a message telling me that "the Freemake file does not exist, unable to uninstall."  Yet it is still listed among the programs in CCleaner and is part of the installed software, strange, don't you think? :/

Not knowing anything about Windows 8.1, I found this https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows?ui=en-US&rs=en-001&ad=US which will allow you to see if Freemake Video Converter is still one of the programs on the PC.  If it is present, you follow the tutorial to uninstall Freemake Video Converter.  If you manage to delete it, you will redo all the operations in the registry with Ccleaner. I went to your link, I did exactly as instructed, I clicked on "big icons," and then as soon as I click on a software, several options appear, I have the possibility to uninstall or modify or even repair.  But in the case of Freemake, there is only one option: Uninstall, and then it happens again, I end up with the same error message, this file does not exist, unable to uninstall.

Ok, I think that after running Ccleaner previously, only the icon remains, restart the PC and check if Freemake is still present, I’ve had this case before, the software icon stays but doesn’t disappear while the program itself is no longer present on the PC.  --> NO PROBLEMS, ONLY...SOLUTIONS <-- Alcohol solves nothing, that said, water and milk don’t either ;-)

Good evening,A few additional points: on ccm, the download happens in two stages because we inform that this software offers adware upon installation; that’s why the download needs to be confirmed a second time.With Chrome, and its secure version, the download may not start because the file will be blocked (it needs to be allowed beforehand and the protection of Chrome unchecked). With Firefox, it should start with the second click.Avast as antivirus will also alert.However, care needs to be taken during installation afterward.On 01net, it is only an installer (700kb instead of 1.3MB for the software) which will download afterward but without warning about adware, and thus it bypasses the security of Chrome and Avast: here’s a reason not to download from them anymore (nor from clubic by the way, which is starting to apply the same policy).For your problem, I would start by checking if certain pests are causing these blockages and issues.Adwcleaner and malwarebytes could be a start for cleanup. Good evening Noctambule28,  I haven't seen your response, thank you for looking into my issue. I already ran Malwarebytes and Adwcleaner, they found no anomalies.  The problem is that Freemake, which I installed last August, stopped working, so I uninstalled it, but it is still on the list of installed software. And even if I want to reinstall Freemake, I can't, I get an error message, here’s the message: "Insufficient system resources to complete the requested service"  And Freemake is still present even though it is uninstalled. Thank you very much Noctambule28, my first message isn't going through.  I just wanted to let you know that I installed the software. When uninstalling Freemake, I get the same error message "" the file does not exist, unable to uninstall " but it still scanned and then gave me the result, and there I see a list of numbers and letters (keys class roots) and it asks me to "select " or "deselect " the lists in bold to continue, but this is all gibberish to me. Could you help me please? Thank you very much.  P.S.: It says "" remaining registry items found "

I tried to reinstall it on CCM, but it doesn't launch. I clicked on "download" and then it tells me "Downloading Freemake Video Converter..." but it doesn't launch or move.  But we'll see about that tomorrow; at least the essential thing is that the software is properly uninstalled. And I thank both of you, Stargate43 and noctambule 28, for your help. I just installed it on a Windows 8. First thing: only do "custom installation" and take the time to read carefully. I'm not even sure if OpenCandy installs itself (I'll check) but be very careful, there are adwares.  It worked normally. let's say that as soon as Avira intervenes, you can't install it!  Avira's detection corresponds to the partners included in the installation files!  You really need to go through a custom installation and avoid infecting your PC with Open Candy and Co.! Hello Electrician 69,  Sorry for the late reply, as I had to clean my PC after downloading Freemake.  I did as you instructed, I disabled Avira to install it. I did the custom installation. Once the software was installed, it opened and closed again; you were right, I’m giving up on Freemake, my PC doesn’t want it anymore, I think. I uninstalled everything with Revo.  But I was infected by Open Candy; I had to clean it with Malwarebytes and Adwcleaner, they cleaned Open Candy, but I think my PC is not completely clean, so I did a new ZHP scan. Hello,  I leave it to the disinfection specialists (Electricien 69 among others) to handle it.  If you really want to install Freemake Video Converter, I can provide you with the procedure to follow along with some images to avoid infecting your machine ;) However, I don't understand how Open Candy could have infected you again...  As for free conversion software, I can suggest Avidemux (but it's in English), XMedia Recode (the portable version is quite good so you don’t install anything permanent on your computer) or even VideotoVideo (portable software) whose interface was somewhat similar to that of Format Factory (if you choose this one, be careful to uncheck the additional "stuff" that is offered!) for example. The last one is probably the simplest, XMedia Recode is a bit more comprehensive, and Avidemux and others are "reference" software in the field of video conversion in general.  But to better advise you, let me know what kind of application you are looking for and for what purpose?  Best regards PS: XMedia Recode can be set to French. Hello Electrician 69,  Actually, it's Avira that's causing the problem; last night it didn't complete its scan, which is why I didn't receive a confirmation message. A page that normally opens with a green validated icon indicating that the scan was successful didn't show up at all.  As proof, I've checked Avira's status, and the update shows today's date, but not the system scan; it's still showing 11/2/2014.  So, I ran a system scan again to check, and curiously, after 30 minutes of scanning, it stopped at 3% on this file:  C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Search\Data\Application\Windows\edb.log   From 30 minutes to 1 hour and 17 minutes, it hasn't moved; it's still stuck at 3% on this file. Only the timer is moving. So I followed what you said, I uninstalled Avira to download Freemake, but it's still the same, it installs, opens and disappears, as if it's playing hide and seek on my PC :/  So I downloaded Avira and installed it, it's currently scanning, it's at 5.8% ... I didn't know it was so slow, it's been 1 hour and 9 minutes since I started it, but it seems to be working and scanning normally. I'm taking this opportunity to give you some updates in the meantime.  In your opinion, can we stay online while it's scanning? I'm a bit hesitant to stay long, I've only connected to respond to you on this thread. Otherwise, since I installed Freemake, am I at risk of being infected again by Open Candy? Hi and sorry for the length of my message... I will only mention software that I know and that are relatively simple to use ;)  A word about Freemake first: it's good because its handling is relatively easy and its interface is clear. But since it does not want to install on your computer, we won't insist on it :/  So, here's a small selection of software that can basically do the same thing either by combining them or not; the list is not exhaustive of course.  For ripping DVD videos only for family use, that is to say the exact copy of the film onto your computer, you might have: - Freez DVD Ripper: I don't know if it works on Windows 8 - the "old" DVD Shrink - DVDFab HD Decrypter, the free version should be enough: https://fr.dvdfab.cn/download.htm - AnyDVD HD: this software is paid but has a demo version - MakeDVD - others You will need to allocate between 5 and 10 GB of space on your computer for ripping.  You can then either process the VIDEO_TS folder of the film directly with certain software or its equivalent in ISO image, or copy the VOB files (which are, after all, the largest and contain the video) as a direct stream copy (without conversion) using, for example, Mpeg2Cut2 (that's the one I use) or VOBMerge so that the subsequent processing is easier. No idea if these two applications work on Windows 8 though.  For opening DVD videos, processing and/or conversion: - Format Factory: you already have it on your computer. It can rip DVDs directly, cut or merge videos in theory and more. So even if it's not my favorite software, it can still be useful. - XMedia Recode: it allows you to open a DVD directly if it does not have any protection and to define what you want to encode, that is to say the entire film or just part of it. - Handbrake which may be in English. It only encodes, in its latest version, to MP4 or MKV. The free version allows you to make a file of only 700 MB. - VideotoVideo: to open a DVD video directly, you need to go through Tools --> Convert DVD to video. Theoretically, you should also have the option to choose the language. However, regarding subtitles, I don't know if it will embed them or not in case this element is poorly recognized by the software. - Avidemux, both version 2.5.6 and versions 2.6.x can open a DVD, cut it, add videos provided that the specifications are identical, and encode/convert the film. To keep it short, you need to open the first important VOB file, probably named VTS_01_1.VOB, so that the software will suggest, at the end of indexing, to add the other following VOB files that constitute your film. At this stage, Avidemux will indicate if your film has several languages or not. If yes, to choose and change it, you need to go to Audio --> Main audio track at the top and select the one you want. If you need more help, feel free to ask ;) You can find plenty of tutorials on the Internet, including this fairly well-made site: http://fr.lprod.org/wiki/doku.php/video:avidemux This software has a big advantage: it accepts almost any type of video files. - etc. All of this software is basically safe, they do not install anything additional on the computer but be cautious during installation because you never know.  Finally, I would like to mention a video editing software, VideoPad Video Editor, which after 15 days in full version remains usable in free version but limits output files to AVI, WMV, or DVD video types basically. But it might be in English. The version of MovieMaker on Windows 8 no longer accepts MPEG-2 (which is the codec used in DVD videos) it seems. The interest of using a video editing software is that you can easily split or join different files and add effects, for example.  The complicated thing, finally we can always find solutions, is the recognition of subtitles. HandBrake or XMedia Recode for instance allows you to do this as well as VideotoVideo probably.  In short, if I understood correctly, you are looking for one or two simple software that are in French. That's why I haven't mentioned a whole bunch of other possible software (often in English by the way) that are more complicated to use.  Anyway, with two or three software, including one for ripping plus one or two for processing/conversion, you should have something sufficient to process your videos as you wish.  To sum up, I would suggest but it’s you who will make your final choice, to have DVDFab 9 in case of DVD videos, and one or two software like Format Factory, VideotoVideo, XMedia Recode or Avidemux, etc. Having video editing software other than MovieMaker can also have its advantages. For Format Factory 3.50, the latest version (DVDs must not be protected):   Then in the new window:    In version 2.6, an example of a conversion to AVI with DivX:    In the advanced settings, pay attention to the video's aspect ratio (16:9 or 4:3) and modify the resolution (Size) accordingly. Basically, if it's 16:9, you set a resolution with a ratio of about 1.777, which gives approximately 720x404, 640x360, or even 512x288, for example. How to change the predefined resolutions in the dropdown list: choose dimensions close to those that suit you, then simply change them. Example in Image:    The bitrate is set based on (Rate in Format Factory) the duration of the movie. This criterion determines the size (the weight if you prefer) of the final file as well as its "quality" or visual output.  Note: I just tried to test a rip of a DVD done with DVDFab 9 on my machine, and Format Factory 3.50 does not open it, which is strange... the same goes for a DVD-Video folder that I created myself... it’s getting weirder and weirder... I will continue trying by reinstalling an older version of Format Factory. Well, since it works with two older versions, it might be because I'm not installing the codecs and AviSynth with FF 3.5.0. I’ll keep you updated. After reflection, I decided not to install them to avoid disrupting the stability of the codecs (K-Lite pack) that I struggled to configure. I have followed all the previous advice but nothing works; I also downloaded the offline version but the problem remains the same, redirecting me to a PC cleaning site or asking for a donation:  I had version 4.1.5 which worked very well, and I made the mistake of replacing it with 4.1.9 which won't start! This problem seems to be recurring with the latest version, and I can't find version 4.1.5; do you have a solution to revert to this old version? The links I found that mention this version all redirect to a download of 4.1.9. Thank you in advance for your responses. PS: Just in case, I'm copying below my post from the 29th, which seems to have been overlooked: Hello everyone, This is my first message; I found the prompt to register on the site "Freemake video.com" where I wanted to download version 4.1.9 to replace the 4.1.5 that I had been using until now.
