Hello,
I regularly use the equations toolbar in Word 2010. However, no equations are showing up in the toolbar anymore: when I select "equations," then "insert a new equation," and "fraction" for example, there is nothing (the selected rectangle is empty). In my document, the dotted frame is no longer appearing.
In my documents where I had equations, they are replaced by empty rectangles!
Thank you in advance for your help,
Sincerely,
Dirlouche

Hello,
There’s something that stands out in your request, which is:
"In my document, the dashed box no longer appears."
However, dashed boxes are equation boxes from earlier versions of Word. Since version 2007, these dashed boxes no longer exist; equations are building blocks. When you click on them, you have access to a dropdown menu offering, among other things, the choice between a linear format and a professional format.
Are you working in Compatibility mode? If so, the equations from version 2010 won’t work.
Another question: have you migrated from Windows 7 to 8? If so, this issue has often been resolved by installing the compatibility pack... who knows why.

You can always give it a try; it won’t hurt!
Additionally, have you tried inserting an equation via Excel and PowerPoint?
In Word, have you tried: Insert => Object => Microsoft Equation Editor 3.0? This is actually the old equation editor that creates dashed boxes.

Hello,
The classic troubleshooting steps to verify the functioning of Word are as follows:
- Start Word in safe mode (hold down the CTRL key while launching Word). If the equations work, it's probably an add-in that you installed recently or that was installed with something else.
In that case, you need to disable it in Word Options (File tab), Add-ins, "Go" button.
- If that doesn’t change anything, you can perform a repair of Office.
