Free Open Office, the scam

I just installed Open Office on my new computer, the so-called free version, but you have to send 3 texts to get 3 successive codes. This service costs €4.50 + text costs, totaling €18. Additionally, the instructions were in French at the beginning of the download and then, conveniently, everything switched to English after the texts, and it’s the English version that was installed. At no point was there any mention of choosing the language. I won't be able to use it and will probably have to uninstall it. How can I be sure that I'm installing the French version?

Hello

Open office is completely free; the only scam that exists is your download link that probably comes from who knows where.
We download a program from the PUBLISHER's website, not from elsewhere.

best regards

I almost got fooled too, with that update link for "Open Office."

Hello, despite the time travel induced by this message (discussion dating back to 2014), I would like to remind you of the official address.

Any other source should be used with caution.

The weather doesn't change anything, I got caught too. I understood when I was asked for a second code. Thank you.

Thank you for the info. The site File 70 that I used had the Open Office logo that I had on my previous computer (blue circle with 2 stylized white birds in flight). I read the entire page before downloading and it did mention that it could be downloaded from the author's site but further down it specified that "File 70 is not responsible as it cannot test the content for viruses, spyware, and malware on the author's site." That’s why I preferred to download with File 70.

Well, it's often the opposite that needs to be done, because this type of site doesn't guarantee anything to encourage you to switch to them, but we can no longer count the "file distribution" sites that are infected, or that include in their downloads other "addons," ads, and unwanted elements.
