Hello.

I have an Epson printer that I used to print certain documents in draft mode on Windows XP to save ink. I'm not looking to print everything in draft mode, which is why my printer wasn't set to Fast, as I only used it for a specific category of documents according to my needs.

I still work with OpenOffice.

However, since I switched to Windows 8, I can’t modify the print quality from OpenOffice anymore. Neither draft quality nor "image" quality, just standard.
I checked the printer settings and I can't change anything... when I go to advanced options, I can only modify the layout (portrait, landscape).

So, a little help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Good evening,
Everything depends on the model of Epson you have; some allow a complete reinstallation of the driver/software suite, while others do not!
Windows 8 is it the 32 or 64 bit version?
Best regards.

My computer recognizes the printer and prints with it, but when I saw that I couldn't print in draft mode, I tried to install the software from the CD and it failed to install the print driver.

I have Windows 8.1, how can I find out if it's 32 or 64 bits?

It's great that the computer recognizes the printer, but depending on your model, you may have options to install utilities to choose how you want to print your document, draft in your case!
32 or 64 bits, please check this PAGE.
See you!

Thank you.

Actually, I just downloaded this driver and it works. I just tried it and I can now select different printing modes, including the much sought-after draft mode.
Thank you for your help, you've allowed me to save a lot of money.
In my job, I constantly have to print all the time, and god, it costs me a fortune!!

Have a good evening.

I must admit I am surprised, far from thinking that this pilot could offer such possibilities, happy for you certainly, best of luck and "happy drafting"!
Best regards.
Have a good evening as well.

Under Windows 8 64 bits for this printer, Epson does not provide any utility, in other words, you cannot select draft quality, photo, etc. as you could under Windows XP, for example.
As you can see for yourself by clicking on this LINK, please note that only a driver is offered.
