Hello,

I have a ranking that evolves continuously based on match results.

For example: if I have 3 players tied for 2nd place...

I want the players to be systematically shifted according to the score evolution...

meaning that places 3 and 4 should not be used even if players finished in 4th position (for example)

the file is available if needed...

I have used the RANK function to rank the players...

Excel 2003 SP3

Thank you in advance!

    Well yes!
It will be infinitely easier to provide you with the explanation if we have your file...

You had clearly stated, "the file is available"!

The procedure appears in about 25% of the discussions on the Office forum...
Go to https://www.cjoint.com/ to create the link, which you will then come back and paste here.

    Understood.

First observation, your formulas in line 3 of Sheet1 are incorrect because you forgot to include the cell $D$2.
Once the correction is made, the ranks are no longer
    5-9-2-2-5-6-2-8-6-1 but rather
    5-10-2-2-5-7-2-9-7-1

Second observation, your statements do not correspond to the reality of your file:
"I want the players to be systematically shifted according to the score; that is, positions 3 and 4 should not be used even if players finish in 4th position".
This is already done, as you found 3 players in rank 2, no one in rank 3 or rank 4, and the next player was indeed in fifth place!

Unless I misunderstood your problem ...

It's nice, retirement! Especially in the Caribbean ... :-)

Your formulas are long, which makes them difficult to decipher; but what is clear is that the formulas in AC3:AV3 do not resemble those in the other rows (from 2 to 11) at all! If you made them identical? I tried, and everything is perfect!

That's one of the risks of hiding columns: you forget what's in them! Moreover, Excel was alerting you every time you opened the file, notifying you of a circular reference in AC3; you could have checked what was going on there!
