Hello,
I had an IYLOD on my PS3, I watched a lot of videos about the repair method, I understood the principle of changing the thermal paste but I don't understand why it's necessary to heat with the heat gun, what is the purpose? What's strange is that in the different videos I've watched, everyone heats a different component or area, can someone explain to me the real reliable method before I get started?
I'm afraid of desoldering the components by heating them with the heat gun!
Help!
Thank you in advance.

The heating technique for the processor is widely used to repair PS3s with YLOD because it reflows, meaning it resolders the processor to the motherboard, which will restore the connection to the processor and restart the console. Thermal paste is ESSENTIAL because it allows for proper heat dissipation from the processor.
P.S.: do not move the motherboard for 10 minutes after the operation.

Do I only need to heat the two processors? How long should I do that?
Can I use a hairdryer? Is it as effective as a heat gun?
I look forward to your reply.

The heat gun must reach up to 600°C for the heating of both processors? Doesn't this pose a risk to them and to the surrounding components? In the various videos I've watched, they set the heat gun to 350°C, minimum power, and it doesn't heat for more than 2 minutes.
Thank you for confirming this.

The hot air gun must reach 600°C when heating the two processors? Doesn't that pose a risk to them and the surrounding components? In the videos I have watched, they set the hot air gun to no more than 350°C and it doesn't heat for more than 2 minutes. Is this reliable?
Thank you for clarifying this for me..
