All desktop icons highlighted and not working?

Hello,
At the beginning of March, I bought an Acer Aspire XC6000 PC with Windows 8 integrated. I don't yet know all the functions and apps and I use it basically. I use the desktop more than the Metro (apps screen) because I have my shortcuts on the desktop.
However, since yesterday morning, when I start my PC, all the shortcuts on the desktop appear highlighted, they are all selected and none respond when I click on them?
I have to restart the PC to solve the problem. I called Flotec (the store where I bought it, a computer store) and they told me to bring it in, but the problem is that I already brought them a Vista PC, and it was broken, so I had to buy another one. Not only do they not listen to me on the phone, but they also ask me to go there with my tower!! again!! I live more than 30 km away, I can't keep moving! Can someone tell me what might be causing the problem? Because this story is really annoying!! I would really like to finally have a working PC....THANK YOU!

    You check "Choose a different restore point," you select a restore point that is at least 2 days older, older than your problem, that is, March 24 or older.
    Your personal folders/files are safe, at most, it may remove a program you installed in the meantime.
    It's not with stupid (and incomplete) command lines that you're going to solve your problem.

    Hello.

    Press the Windows and X keys.
    Click on Command Prompt (admin).
    In the command prompt window, type this:

    sfc /scannow (Press Enter to confirm).

    The operation takes some time.

      Now I'm being told access denied when I try to open CBS log for errors. It opens in Notepad but a window appears with "access denied" and a yellow panel?

    Try to perform a restoration.

    Control Panel, System, System Protection, Restore and choose a date before the problem, then let it do its thing.

      Restoring to a later date does not erase what exists; you will not lose anything.

      It is a restoration made from a restore point created automatically or manually. No risk, take the point that was created before your problem, so before March 26th.

    It is not normal for the analysis to stop at 54% and in addition there are damaged non-recoverable files.
    To read the cbs.log file, there is a method:

    It is a somewhat special file, dissecting it with the command prompt in administrator mode.

    Copy the text below without the brackets.

    [ findstr /c:"[SR] Cannot repair" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log > c:\cbs_log.txt ]

    Then press Windows and X -> Command Prompt (admin).

    Paste the text into the command prompt window, then press Enter, a

    file named cbs_log.txt will be created in C:\

    And can be viewed with Notepad for example.

      Why make it simple when you can make it complicated?
      Right-click on the cbs.log file, Copy, then, on the desktop, right-click Paste and open it with Notepad.

      He should have tried a system restore like you advised.
      It's useless to want to consult a log file; it has never provided the way to fix errors that haven't been resolved with sfc /scannow.

        Good evening. I didn't think this post would come to this. I'm not here for anyone to shoot at each other, but I just needed help with a tiny thing and it's taken on a phenomenal scope. I don't understand anything about all these technical things. Thank you for re-explaining the steps to create a restore point because I still haven't found it, and the CBS log stuff is gibberish to me. Signed "she" and not "he." It would be really cool of you, gentlemen techies, instead of looking for who's right or wrong, because until now I've made no progress, and this morning will be the same. Right now I'm on my smartphone, I'm exhausted, I had an exam that lasted over two hours. Thanks again!

    Oops, I hadn't read that it was novirus who wrote "make a restore point", it's true that it has become so m...dic with your sterile discussions that it's a bit confusing.

    Either he does a restoration on the 24th (for testing) or he figures it out.

      Hello again. Thank you. Well, apparently since I don't know anything and I don't understand, I will probably manage as you say because I understand nothing. I read the article on restoration (create a point, etc.) and from the numerous comments from distressed people following the article (PC stuck on startup for 4 hours, programs deleted, everything has to be reinstalled, and so on), I'm afraid of messing up and making a bad move!! Just yesterday when it updated to Windows 8.1, it messed up a lot of things! It restarted several times and once the password page displayed, it didn't recognize it (letters and punctuation inverted) and it took a while to come back. This morning, however, all the icons were working and were no longer selected. Is that because Windows 8 is not yet fully developed? Are there still patches to be made which is causing the bugs? A lot of people are complaining because indeed it’s more technical and I use my PC not like a geek or for complicated stuff but for basic, everyday tasks...

      So the continuation: I then went to settings, opened system restore, etc., and I found a "system restore" table that just shows a date: March 27, 2014, at 5:42:03 PM, and the description is Avast Antivirus system restore point. There is nothing else, so I clicked cancel.

      You should have done it when I offered it to you. It may be that since then, by making various haphazard manipulations, you have erased the other points or that you have not checked for other points.

So I start with the first one: not knowing much, I don’t see why I would have fiddled with something or made a random bad manipulation since I had NEVER been in the restoration thing! I haven't deleted anything, and now I come to the second, Lacharpente, I didn't find anything to check or even "next," otherwise I wouldn't be here annoying everyone... for now it works, I reinstalled CCleaner because I had the pro version which was a free trial, I ran a scan with Avast, there's nothing, just a virus that it quarantined right away, but otherwise the shortcuts are in place and I have access to them. I'll check again for the restore point and keep you updated, thanks again...

      Hello, so I've done everything you told me but (I still don't know how to take a screenshot!) I just have a blue window opening (and not with the green bar at the top like yours) which doesn't have the "choose another point" box. Some text is missing; it stops at "some recently installed programs may be uninstalled," but there is no continuation (just a big blank space) with dates and checkboxes, so I clicked "next" and there is a table with dates (March 27, description "avast restore point") and March 28 points that I must have created somehow "shortcut bugs" "March 24, 2013" (but it carries the date of the 28) and "I understand nothing" (same, it's from the 28) because at one point I had a window that opened with a bar and I had to enter something in the bar. But I'm not interested in the points created on March 28 because the shortcut bugs and unresolved errors are from the 26. That's what I've managed. I really don't understand what to do when the PC reports errors and bugs; apart from running scans and CCleaner and clearing history, caches, etc., being cautious of viruses, I don't know how to do anything else except for my emails, watching videos, playing free games from the Windows Store, social networks, and sometimes shopping, and doing research when needed.... I really use it simply without doing complicated stuff that doesn’t interest me! I don't even do word processing because I write my work letters by hand.... I would like the PC to be a leisure activity and not a constraint, and for it to take care of itself because I have enough constraints in my life to deal with a machine! ........... so what can I do since I don't have the same things displayed as you and this from the beginning?     Avast is not originally on PCs, the original antivirus must have been uninstalled incorrectly (always use the uninstaller utility)
    Personally, I remove commercial antiviruses and leave Windows Defender, I install Wot and adblock on my browsers (among other things), that's enough
    anyway, there must be a mess in your PC!?

    Logically, with Acer, you can reinstall Windows without losing your documents if I remember correctly, you just need to reinstall the system (C: drive)to confirm??

      Right-click on the CBS file, Copy.
      Go to the desktop, right-click Paste.
      A dialog box opens, Access Denied, You must have Administrator rights... etc., click Continue and you have your file on the desktop.
      It's the same with W7 (And certainly also with Vista or XP)
