Installing gadgets on the desktop (on Windows 8.1) Solved

Question

Hello, I just upgraded from Windows 8 to 8.1. I'm trying to reinstall my desktop gadgets (by right-clicking on the desktop or using the app from the start screen). But... it doesn't work. The little spinning circle does appear next to the mouse cursor (indicating that the process is starting). But after about a second, it disappears and nothing happens. => How can I make the gadgets list appear so I can choose which ones I want to install?  I hope I was clear. Thank you for your help. You just need to install a gadget pack like on this site :)  http://telecharger.tomsguide.fr/8GadgetPack-Windows-8-,0301-50004.html  Just type 8gadget pack on Google.

try uninstalling and reinstalling the gadgets (via Programs and Features in the Control Panel)

Thank you for this response. But since I feel like I have other bugs, I'm doing a complete system reinstallation. I will see how it goes afterwards and I will post a ticket here to update on my situation.

Finally, as mentioned in my previous message, I reinstalled Windows 8.1.  I did it from a Microsoft version that I purchased and not from the 8 installed on my PC.  Now everything is OK.  I was able to install the desktop gadgets without any difficulty.  Thank you Ellana29460 for your help.

You're welcome. However, don't forget that gadgets are not very optimized and can cause crashes on Win 8 (which is pretty awful, based on my daily experience). You may need to uninstall/reinstall them within 5 months (bad luck :-/ ) to 3 years (not that bad, but still a bit :) )

For all those who lose their gadgets when upgrading from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1, it's just a compatibility issue, so Windows will look for compatibility, and you accept it, and all your gadgets will come back as before.
