Hello,
Here is my problem and thank you in advance for your dedication.
For some time now, when I try to put the computer to sleep, it restarts instead, with a message on startup: "Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown."
I have tried to restore my computer to a date later twice, and the problem persists!
I also checked the power options to see if sleep mode was enabled, and yes, everything is correct there.
I checked if my drivers are up to date, and that is also okay!
I really have no idea where the problem could be!
I hope someone has an idea about all this!
Thank you.

Good evening,
Perform a Complete scan with Malwarebytes, let it run until the end without doing anything else on the PC, and then if it finds any infections, delete everything without exception and restart if prompted.
Complete and not quick, it's long and you need to be patient.

I don't think it's the battery or the power cable because inside my computer, I have another hard drive with Windows 7 installed on it and the sleep mode works just fine.
It's only with Vista that there's this problem, and it's been happening for about 2 weeks now.
Tomorrow morning, I will perform a full scan again after disabling my Avast and I'll get back to you with the results.
Thank you.

Sorry for my delay,
I indeed did a complete scan with my Malwarebytes while disabling everything I could (antivirus and other programs) and the scan found nothing.

I don't know if the following excerpt will help you since it concerns hibernate mode:
==================================
The sleep mode and other power-saving modes may be disabled in your computer's BIOS. To enable the Sleep function, restart your computer and then access the BIOS setup. During the startup of your computer, instructions usually appear on the screen to indicate the key or keyboard shortcut to press to enter the BIOS setup. Since not all manufacturers use the same BIOS, different keys may be assigned for this operation.
(...)
To make hibernation available, follow these steps:
1. Click on Start, then type cmd in the Search box.
2. In the list of search results, right-click on Command Prompt, then click on Run as administrator.
3. When prompted by the user account control, click Continue.
4. At the command prompt, type powercfg.exe /hibernate on, then press Enter.
5. Type exit, then press Enter to close the command prompt window.

Thank you for the search, CCMclaude.
Based on your research, I found this:
https://labo-microsoft.supinfo.com/articles/options-alimentation-windows-vista/
But, despite all that, the problem persists.
Anyway, I'm due for a big cleanup of my hard drive by formatting it. I wasn't planning to do it this soon, but oh well!
So, when I reinstall my Vista, the problem should be resolved!
When I reinstall, I'll let you know if the sleep mode works well.
Thank you all.

Don't forget to first save your personal files and documents, including your passwords, etc., on a separate medium.
Two mandatory preliminary readings:
1. Vista: Restore Windows Vista
2. Vista: Restore, create, and delete restore points
Don't forget to update your reinstalled Vista (Windows Update: at least the SP2) as well as your drivers.
When talking about reinstallation, make sure to properly manage your anti-whatevers (don't forget that you shouldn't have more than one antivirus). Personally, I use MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) and that works for me.
Reading: 3. https://www.commentcamarche.net/faq/8934-securisation-de-son-pc
After your formatting, scan the saved files before copying them back to your hard drive.
Download and install CCleaner and Recuva.
Download and also install the free version of Malwarebytes Anti-malware
A++

Thank you very much for all the good advice.
I have already partitioned my hard drive and transferred my documents onto it, and they have already been scanned by my Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (I have the Pro version).
As for antivirus, I have Avast's free version.
I'm already using CCleaner, but I will definitely read about Recuva, which I don't know.
I will definitely read all the suggested links (and I might almost become a pro! Lolll).
Once again, thank you so much.
See you!
