Hello everyone.
Recently, in the middle of a movie, there was a loud bang from my Sharp Aquos 37 GA5E LCD TV (manufactured in May 2005), with no smoke or particular smell.
The screen still seems intact, with no visible cracks, and after removing the back cover, everything looks normal, no burnt transformer or exploded capacitors. I put everything back together since I don't know much about TVs. The repair estimates range from €45 to €75, which is money wasted if I don’t go for the repairs (which is likely to be the case). Does anyone have an idea of what might have happened during this failure?
Thank you very much.

Hello,
If no lights come on, then indeed the customer service might be right.
- Check if the TV power supply is properly connected (no cut wires).
- If you have a multimeter, check the voltage coming to the power board.
- Check the output: this way you'll know if it's indeed a faulty power supply.
Check if the capacitors are swollen (this shouldn't normally cause your TV to shut down, but you never know).
http://www.destocktv.com/crbst_27.html: on this link, you can see the prices for some power board cards. (I haven't seen your model).
If you manage to find your model, you can replace your power board yourself.
Otherwise, I recommend calling customer service to get a quote and then see if it might be better to change the TV. It depends on your screen size.
Above all, don't throw away your TV; it can be resold for spare parts. (Main board...)
Good luck...
