Hello, Is there any risk in removing the hard drive from my PC to put the one from the PS3 in the meantime to format the PS3 hard drive?   Configuration: Windows 7 / Firefox 22.0

You can put it in a second hard drive to format it with the programs from the first... Don't make a mistake...

You can also boot your PC with a live CD (like Puppy Linux) and use Gparted to format your disk... There's no need to know Linux.

And with this system, you can install only the disk to format without any other risks.

What's the goal...? To leave it on a PC afterwards or to return it to the PS3...?
Are you sure that the formatting for the PS3 is the same (check the forums)?

You will have a hard time formatting to FAT32 under Win7... Because it's not a true FAT32... Try this little program that should solve your problem.. http://www.fat32formatter.com/

You say that your PS3 no longer recognizes the disk..?? But it might be dead..? In that case, there's nothing to be done... listen if you hear the motor running, especially at startup; with your hand on it, you can feel the vibrations of its rotation and it gets warm.. But well, after formatting, it should work..

If Windows recognizes your disk, then it's alive.
