The two dots on the e or on the i

Hello,
I have a Canadian French QWERTY keyboard and I can't find how to access the two dots (which I believe are called "diaeresis") on the e or i. I see it... it’s on the same key as the ç, which is to the left of the "enter" key... but I can't get it to appear... grrrr...
Is there anyone who can help me?
